Data Center Maintenance Sites Have Increased by 71% Over the Past 5 Years
[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] HiM Solutech, an LGELECTRONICS subsidiary specializing in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, is expanding the scope of its cooling system management for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers from chillers to liquid cooling equipment. The company plans to reduce the risk of data center downtime by managing various cooling and HVAC equipment through a single integrated system.
(Photo courtesy of HiM Solutech) HiM Solutech announced on the 8th that it is strengthening its “AI Data Center HVAC Integrated Maintenance” system in line with the expansion of the AI data center market.
While the company previously provided maintenance services focused primarily on chillers, it will now add management and operational capabilities for liquid cooling equipment, such as cooling water distribution units (CDUs) and direct cooling systems (TCS). This expands its service scope to cover the entire range of data center thermal management equipment, from air cooling to liquid cooling.
HiM Solutech currently provides integrated maintenance services for LG Corp.'s chillers, as well as auxiliary HVAC equipment such as cooling towers and air handling units (AHUs), and building management. The company explains that by consolidating inspections and repairs—which were previously conducted on a per-product basis—into a single maintenance system, it reduces the management burden on its clients.
AI data centers generate more heat than conventional data centers due to the high-density deployment of high-performance central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs). Since a malfunction in cooling equipment can lead not only to degraded server performance but also to service interruptions, the importance of a system that continuously monitors the entire cooling and HVAC system is growing, rather than simply repairing faulty equipment after the fact.
Based on a system of dedicated engineers assigned to each site, HiM Solutech plans to secure additional skilled personnel capable of addressing complex issues and to strengthen its capabilities for regular inspections and emergency response.
Taking into account the nature of data centers that operate 24 hours a day, the company will integrate remote monitoring, on-site inspections and diagnostics, and emergency dispatch services using LGELECTRONICS’ facility management platform, “Beacon Cloud.” It also plans to pre-stock key components at each site to reduce the time required for parts procurement when failures occur and to speed up response times.
As investment in AI infrastructure grows, so does the demand for related maintenance services. The number of data center maintenance sites managed by HiM Solutech has increased by approximately 71% this year compared to 2021.
Yoo Kwang-yeol, CEO of HiM Solutech, stated, “For AI data centers, it is crucial not only to ensure long-term, trouble-free operation of equipment but also to prevent unexpected failures and ensure operational continuity.” He added, “We will strengthen our HVAC service capabilities to support the stable operation of data center cooling systems.”
