At the Actors’ House event for the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), held on the 8th at the Culture Hall on the 9th floor of the Shinsegae Department Store Centum City branch in Haeundae-gu, Busan, actress Kim Go-eun spoke candidly about everything from how to build relationships with senior actors to her mindset when interacting with junior actors.

Kim Go-eun has worked alongside senior actors such as Kim Hye-soo and Jeon Do-yeon. She noted that she received a great deal of help from her seniors from the beginning of her career until she landed her first leading role, saying, “My seniors guided and looked out for me when I was clumsy and overwhelmed.”

She continued, “Thanks to them, I learned that it’s important to see the big picture, not just my own character. What I wanted to cultivate most was that ability to see the whole picture.”

She also revealed her own method for building close relationships with her senior actors. “I think I just go by my instincts when it comes to people,” she joked, drawing laughter.

She continued, “In the beginning, I observe a lot. There’s time for table reads and meetings before filming starts, right? Until then, I mainly observe and listen,” explaining, “I also listen closely to what they consider important.”

She continued, “I’m the type who opens up once I approach someone, so from that point on, I don’t think I’m overly cautious,” and added, “Now that I’ve become a senior myself, I find myself thinking how nice it would be to have a junior like me,” showcasing her endearing charm.

Kim Go-eun described her approach to senior-junior relationships, saying, “I strike a good balance between being respectful and playful.”

Kim Go-eun’s acceptance speech at the recent Blue Dragon Series Awards, where she won the Grand Prize, also drew significant attention. At the time, she said, “I’ll work even harder to make you want to see a new side of me, so please keep watching.”

Regarding this, Kim Go-eun said, “Isn’t it true that I can only show you something if you’re curious about it?” adding, “I hope you’ll always wonder if there’s something new coming.”

Regarding her current activities, she said, “I’m filming at a breakneck pace.” She continued, “The project I’m currently working on should wrap up sometime between mid-November and the end of the month,” adding, “Since we’ve been filming this for nearly a year, I think I’ll finally have a chance to catch my breath once it’s over.”

She also expressed a willingness to take on new genres. Kim Go-eun revealed, “If I get the chance to do a music film or a musical film, I’d love to do it.”

However, she drew a line when it came to actually performing on a musical theater stage. “I don’t think I’m cut out for performing musicals on stage,” she said with a laugh. “It’s not easy, and performing live requires a high level of expertise. I don’t think it’s for me.”

The 31st Busan International Film Festival is being held throughout Busan until the 15th at venues including the Busan Cinema Center, CGV Centum City, Lotte Cinema Centum City, the Korean Film Council’s Standard Screening Room, the Sohyang Theater Woori Bank Hall, and the Busan Viewers’ Media Center Public Hall.
