"I'm the one preventing a war between North and South Korea"... Trump Explodes Over Failure to Win the Nobel Peace Prize

According to foreign media outlets such as the UK’s Guardian on the 9th (local time), President Trump remarked during a midterm election campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, that “Today, the Nobel Peace Prize went to someone I’ve never even heard of,” adding that “(the laureate) is a mysterious figure whom no one knows.”

Earlier, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that it had selected South African legal scholar Navi Pillay as this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Pillay is recognized for her contributions to the protection of human rights and the establishment of international law through her roles as a human rights lawyer, judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC), and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. She also defended former President Nelson Mandela during South Africa’s era of racial segregation, known as “apartheid.”

In response, President Trump strongly criticized the decision, stating, “The United States, which I represent, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize but did not,” and adding, “This is an indelible stain on the nation of Norway and on those who made such a disgraceful and shameful decision.”

President Trump cited several wars he claims to have resolved as reasons why he should have received the Nobel Peace Prize. He asserts that he resolved the India-Pakistan conflict, the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Egypt-Ethiopia conflict, the Congo-Rwanda conflict, and the Kosovo-Serbia conflict. He also claimed that he would soon resolve the U.S.-Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Claiming to have ended eight wars, President Trump raised his voice, saying, “If I had resolved just one of these, I could have won the Nobel Prize. We (the U.S.) should have received eight Nobel Prizes, one for each war.”

During his remarks, President Trump also mentioned South Korea. He said, “We are constantly preventing wars between South Korea and North Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan.”

Trump criticized the Nobel Peace Prize, stating, “It has forever lost credibility due to a radical minority with anti-democratic ideologies that are, in fact, the enemies of civilization,” and added, “We will not forget Norway for denying us this prize despite our having achieved the greatest feat in history.”

On the same day, the U.S. government also announced comprehensive sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC). Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement that day, asserting, “President Trump will never allow the ICC to prosecute Americans,” and added, “We will ban dealings with this rogue court to cut off its resources and paralyze its operational capabilities.”
