[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] Apple will unveil “HomeView,” its first smart home hub with a built-in display, on the 13th. It is expected to serve as a central hub for controlling home devices, powered by the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant Siri.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 12th, Apple will hold a “Welcome Home” event in New York City on the 13th to unveil new smart home products. Apple has also announced the “Welcome Home” event through its official channels. Renderings of the Apple HomePod Mini and HomeView (Photo: Generated by ChatGPT) Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported that the smart home hub to be unveiled at this event will be named “HomeView.” The product is expected to ship around mid-next month.
HomeView combines a screen and speakers. The desktop model is designed with the display floating above a speaker base, similar to the old iMac G4, and a separate wall-mounted model is also reportedly in the works. It will be powered by the Apple A18 chip to support AI processing.
The desktop model is expected to be released in four colors: Space Gray, Silver, Starlight, and Pink. For the wall-mounted model, Silver and Space Gray are being mentioned.
HomeView operates primarily through the AI assistant Siri. It is designed to allow users to check their schedules, play music, and control smart home devices using voice commands. It is also expected to support Apple’s core apps, such as Calendar, Camera, Apple Music, Notes, and Reminders.
Although it features a screen similar to that of an iPad, it is not expected to include the App Store. Reports indicate that Apple is considering a method of displaying widgets from nearby iPhones on the HomeView screen, rather than allowing third-party apps to be installed directly on the device.
Along with HomeView, Apple plans to unveil the new HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K. Both products have also been developed to enhance smart home capabilities centered around Siri AI.
Apple is also expanding its smart home peripheral ecosystem. The company is jointly developing devices that integrate with HomeView, including the LGELECTRONICS(066570), video doorbells, smart door locks, thermostats, and cameras. The strategy is to unite hardware, AI, and peripherals into a single ecosystem centered around a smart home hub.
Barun Mishra, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, predicted, “Apple will be able to address the issues of fragmentation, interoperability, and data security in the smart home market based on its strong ecosystem and ability to integrate devices.”
