[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] Samsung SDS (SAMSUNG SDS CO., LTD.(018260)) has acquired a 100% stake in Woojung Air, a company specializing in mixed air cargo. With Incheon International Airport as its base, the company plans to strengthen its air freight forwarding capabilities and expand its business in conjunction with the digital logistics platform “Cello Square.”

According to industry sources on the 12th, Samsung SDS acquired all shares of Woojung Air on that day.

Founded in 1999, Woojung Air is a company specializing in air cargo consolidation that secures designated cargo space on aircraft through contracts with airlines and then consolidates small shipments from multiple shippers for transport.

It has airspace operation contracts with Korean carriers and major foreign airlines, and operates a logistics center at Incheon International Airport as well as its own digital air cargo platform, “iNomad.”

Woojeong Air’s Incheon Airport logistics center is equipped with commercial shipper terminal capabilities, allowing for the centralized handling of weighing, security screening, and loading outside the airline terminals. This enables the integration of the entire air cargo handling process, from cargo acceptance to security screening, loading, and transportation.

With this acquisition, Samsung SDS is expected to strengthen its direct operational capabilities in the air freight forwarding business. Samsung SDS has previously provided international air and ocean freight transportation, logistics center operations, and inland transportation through its Chello Square platform.

The two companies are expected to pursue a plan to integrate the operation of cargo originating from Korea and cargo from Asia transiting through Incheon, with Incheon International Airport as the hub. The goal is to enhance aircraft loading efficiency and transportation competitiveness by improving the ability to consolidate cargo from multiple shippers.

Utilizing Woojung Air’s commercial cargo terminal will also enable in-house security screening and loading operations. By performing certain procedures in advance—which were previously handled separately at the airline’s terminal—the companies can reduce transportation time and costs.

Integration between digital platforms is also expected to be pursued. This will involve connecting Woojung Air’s “i-Nomad” with Samsung SDS’s “Cello Square” to enhance air freight processing capabilities and expand data-driven automation.

An industry official stated, “Through the acquisition of Woojung Air, Samsung SDS has secured both air freight forwarding capabilities and a digital platform,” adding, “The company is expected to expand its air freight business, focusing on cargo originating from Incheon and cargo from other Asian destinations transiting through Incheon, and to apply this model to its global operations in the future.”
