Aiming for a Global Theatrical Release in 2029 to Mark the 20th Anniversary of the "Cookie Run" IP
[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] Devsisters corporation(194480)is partnering with Hollywood production company Big Shot Pictures to adapt the “Cookie Run” intellectual property (IP) into a feature-length animated film. The two companies have set a goal of a simultaneous global release in 2029, marking the 20th anniversary of Cookie Run’s launch.
The Devsisters corporation announced on the 12th that it has entered into a partnership with Hollywood studio “Big Shot Pictures” to produce a feature-length animated film based on the “Cookie Run” IP.
Big Shot Pictures is a studio founded by Brian Robbins, who previously served in executive roles at Paramount, Paramount Pictures, and Nickelodeon. The company has signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment for theatrical distribution and has secured IPs targeting family audiences, such as “Eloise” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks.”
Big Shot Pictures will oversee film production, while Devsisters corporation will collaborate on the story and creative direction. The plan is to expand the *Cookie Run* universe—which has been developed primarily as a game—into theatrical content and cultivate it into a global franchise.
Cookie Run began in 2009 with the running game “Ovenbreak.” The company has since expanded its business scope to include games, trading card games (TCGs), and character merchandise. It has accumulated over 300 million users across 248 countries.
North America was the market with the highest consolidated revenue from the Cookie Run IP last year. In the U.S., “Cookie Run: Kingdom” even made it into the top 10 trending videos on YouTube. The company is expanding its IP business with a focus on the U.S.
Devsisters corporation CEO Jo Gil-hyun said, “We are very pleased to be able to share the unique universe of Cookie Run with global audiences in collaboration with Big Shot Pictures. We hope to bring the excitement of encountering the cookies in a new way to long-time fans, and to convey a warm message of courage to those experiencing Cookie Run for the first time.”
Brian Robbins, CEO of Big Shot Pictures, remarked, “I am thrilled to expand the captivating world of Cookie Run to the big screen, not only to connect with existing fans but also to introduce Cookie Run to new audiences around the world,” “We expect that Big Shot Pictures’ expertise, built through digital-first storytelling, will create new synergies that amplify the interest in Cookie Run that has been cultivated online,” he added.
