[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] Kim So-hyun, known as the “Dating Expert,” discovered that Choo Young-woo uses a prosthetic leg.
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research firm, on the 13th, the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama “The Dating Expert,” which aired on the 12th, recorded a nationwide household viewership rating of 2.1%.
In that episode, Park Min-jae couldn’t sleep after their sudden first kiss. He even made his own preparations for the thought of running into Im Yu-jin on his way to school the next day, but an unexpected situation unfolded right from Im Yu-jin’s first day on the job. Kim Se-jin (played by Im Jin-hyo), another new researcher who had been engaged in an intense power struggle with Im Yu-jin ever since their graduate school exams, made an appearance. The difference between Im Yu-jin, who was starting fresh in a completely different field, and Kim Se-jin, a graduate of a prestigious university’s electrical engineering department, was evident from day one. Because the lab had unexpectedly hired both of them, there was only one computer available for immediate use, leading to a scuffle over who would get to use it first. Park Min-jae gave the computer to Kim Se-jin—who had relevant knowledge—rather than Im Yu-jin, who was unable to start working right away. Even though she knew it was the logical choice, Im Yu-jin felt hurt.
Im Yujin felt increasingly intimidated, as even the basic terminology of robotics research was unfamiliar to her. While everyone else was busy and focused on their respective tasks, her only assignment was to read research papers. The excitement of being accepted into graduate school was short-lived; a sense of helplessness at not being able to pull her weight, coupled with resentment toward Park Min-jae for prioritizing Kim Se-jin over her, began to weigh heavily on Im Yujin’s heart.
Park Min-jae, who had been watching Im Yu-jin’s mood, cautiously approached her over dinner. He tried to bring up the kiss from the previous day, but Im Yu-jin’s reaction—claiming she couldn’t remember a thing—left Park Min-jae flustered. Im Yu-jin then asked if he had ignored her by letting Kim Se-jin use the computer first, and Park Min-jae found it frustrating that she kept bringing up the computer issue for reasons he couldn’t understand. Eventually, the two raised their voices as they vented their pent-up feelings toward each other. As he watched Im Yu-jin walk away first, Park Min-jae’s heart grew increasingly conflicted.
That night, Park Min-jae hurried to get a computer for Im Yu-jin. Just as he was relieved to see the joy on Im Yu-jin’s face, Kim Se-jin began eyeing a computer with better specs. Caught in an awkward situation, Park Min-jae once again sided with Kim Se-jin, and Im Yu-jin, whose heart had just begun to heal, felt hurt all over again. Eventually, Im Yu-jin stormed out, declaring she was quitting the lab. Park Min-jae retorted by telling her to bring him her withdrawal form, but he soon ran after her. Finding Im Yu-jin crying alone in an empty classroom, Park Min-jae realized she was blaming herself for falling short compared to Kim Se-jin. As he comforted Im Yu-jin, who was pouring out the hurt she had been trying so hard to hide, Park Min-jae suddenly suggested they go meet the “talking hat” from the movie.
Park Min-jae and Im Yu-jin went together to see mathematics professor Lee Ji-hoon (played by Jang In-seop) and asked him to share once more his thoughts on Im Yu-jin’s exam answers. In response, Lee Ji-hoon praised Im Yu-jin for her unique potential, and thanks to this unexpected recognition, Im Yu-jin gradually regained her confidence. A smile spread across Im Yu-jin’s face as she realized her own potential, and Park Min-jae, who found her utterly adorable, couldn’t help but smile brightly as well.
That day, another twist arose in their romance: Im Yu-jin learned that Park Min-jae was a person with a disability who had lost one leg. Im Yu-jin went to see Park Min-jae, thanked him for looking out for her, and handed him a pair of shoes she had bought for him. Park Min-jae was taken aback but changed into the new shoes, and Im Yu-jin, after staring at his leg, hurriedly ran out of the lab. Left alone, Park Min-jae looked nothing but bitter. As an unexpected distance emerged between the two—who had seemed to be growing closer—attention is now focused on what changes may lie ahead for their relationship.
“Love Siblings” follows Min-jae, a Ph.D. student who was a high school swimmer but lost one leg to illness, and Yoo-jin, a master’s student who, after wandering aimlessly without a clear career path, has embarked on a new journey. It is a spicy, bitter, and sweet romance between two young people that blossoms in a robotics lab. The series is also drawing attention as the final work of the late Director Ahn Pan-seok, who passed away last August.
“Love Doctor” airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m.
