[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] Kim Ji-won goes head-to-head with Jang Seung-jo in “Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia.”
On the 22nd, the production team of SBS’s “Doctor X” released photos of Gye Su-jeong (played by Kim Ji-won) and Na Dae-il (played by Jang Seung-jo) ahead of the broadcast of Episode 5. In the previous Episode 4, a conflict emerged between Gye Su-jeong and the newly appointed surgeon Na Dae-il at Gu Seo-dae Hospital, and Gye Su-jeong shocked viewers by discovering evidence that Na Dae-il had once carved his initials into a patient’s organ during surgery. Interest is mounting in Episode 5 to see how Gye Su-jeong will punish Jang Seung-jo, the “devil” who has cast aside medical ethics. The stills released alongside the announcement show Na Da-il during his time as a military doctor, performing surgery alone. A strange smile spreads across his face as he becomes completely absorbed in the procedure. Na Da-il’s demeanor—seemingly more focused on his own desires than the patient’s life—lay bare his chilling true nature, revealing that medical ethics mean nothing to him. The scene then cuts to the present-day Gye Su-jeong, who once stood in the way of Na Dae-il’s surgery. She is shown gripping Na Dae-il’s blood-stained hand tightly, glaring at him with a look of rage and contempt. Attention is focused on what Gye Su-jeong’s masterstroke will be to shatter Na Dae-il’s arrogance—which, on the surface, commands everyone’s admiration and trust—and whether she will be able to protect the patient who has been left with horrific scars by Na Dae-il. Meanwhile, “Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia,” based on a Japanese series of the same name, features “the crazy doctor of the operating room” who shatters injustice with her genius surgical skills. “Doctor X: The Era of the White Mafia” is a refreshing medical noir starring Gye Su-jeong. The cast includes actors Kim Ji-won, Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Woo-seok. The series is on an upward trajectory, with viewership ratings rising to 18.5% (Nielsen Korea/nationwide households) by its fourth episode, and it is gaining popularity both domestically and internationally, having ranked No. 1 on Netflix’s Non-English Shows chart for two consecutive weeks immediately after its release. It airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m.
