[E-Daily Reporter Oh Hee-na ] A charity walking festival is being held where participants can walk together through Seoul’s downtown cultural heritage sites while giving back to the community. The event offers opportunities to experience Korean culture, such as hanok houses and traditional crafts, with proceeds going to help children with Type 1 diabetes.

The Korea Association of Foreign Language Education (KAFLA), under the Federation of Korean Educational Institutions, will host the “7th Charity Walking Festival with Foreigners” in collaboration with All That Travel (ATT) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the 24th at Jongmyo Citizens’ Park and the surrounding areas of Bukchon and Ikseon-dong in Seoul. Approximately 1,000 people are expected to participate, including foreign residents in Korea, native-speaking teachers, international students, tourists, KAFLA members, and the general public.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Korea Tourism Organization, this event is being held under the slogan “Explore Korea, Experience Korea” (EXPLORE KOREA, EXPERIENCE KOREA).
This year’s event will be conducted as the “K-Culture Passport Challenge,” combining walking, cultural experiences, and games. Participants will walk a roughly 5-kilometer course starting from Jongmyo Citizens’ Park, passing through Seosunra-gil, Bukchon Hanok Village, Anguk-dong, and Ikseon-dong before returning to the starting point, completing various missions at “Treasure Spots” along the route.
Programs have also been organized to explore the history of Bukchon and its hanok culture, as well as to experience traditional Korean crafts. There will be a giveaway of calligraphy scrolls featuring participants’ names written in Hangul, as well as a prize draw sponsored by partner companies. Those who complete all missions will receive souvenirs and the chance to enter the prize draw.
In particular, through a charity campaign that goes beyond cultural exchange to promote social values, the event aims to bring hope to children with Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes), and all proceeds from the event will be donated as sponsorship funds.
KAFLA President Jung Mari said, “I hope this charity walk will be a meaningful occasion for people to experience and connect with Korea’s beautiful cultural heritage together, transcending the boundaries of nationality and language.” She added, “I look forward to these small steps we take together bringing tangible hope to children with Type 1 diabetes and serving as an opportunity to further spread the value of sharing.”
