[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-wook ] Automotive parts manufacturer KBI Dongguk Industries is moving forward with plans to expand its production base near HyundaiMotor’s Ulsan plant.
KBI DONGKUK INDUSTRIES COMPANY announced on the 22nd that it has purchased a factory site within the Modularization Industrial Complex in Buk-gu, Ulsan. The site covers approximately 24,113 square meters, with a building area of approximately 9,194 square meters.
This investment is intended to ensure a stable supply of products incorporating new technologies, in line with new orders from clients. KBI Dongguk Industries is an automotive parts manufacturer specializing in dashboard modules—which span the front of the driver’s and passenger’s seats—and crash pads.
In particular, the new factory is located close to existing production facilities and major clients, which is expected to improve logistics efficiency and enhance delivery responsiveness. The site is approximately 1.7 km from the existing factory and about 6.3 km from the Ulsan plant of HyundaiMotor, one of its major clients.
The company plans to apply cutting-edge development technologies at the new production base to make crash pads lighter and more sophisticated, and to meet module-level component orders from customers, including HyundaiMotor.
In addition, the company aims to reduce costs by transitioning production at its existing leased factory to the MIP (Made In Plant) model. MIP refers to producing parts in-house at the factory rather than outsourcing them.
Kim Yong-hee, CEO of KBI Dongguk Industries, stated, “This investment is intended to actively respond to new orders and prepare for the era of modularization,” adding, “We will reliably provide our customers with products incorporating new technologies.”
