[Edaily Reporter Kim Se-yeon ] HanaFinancialGroupInc.(086790)is on track to set a new record for annual earnings after posting cumulative net income of over 3.6 trillion won through the third quarter of this year. Following last year’s first-ever annual net income exceeding 4 trillion won, the company is now highly likely to set a new all-time high this year as well.

HanaFinancialGroupInc. announced on the 23rd that it recorded a cumulative net income of 3.6977 trillion won through the third quarter of this year, including a consolidated net income of 1.2609 trillion won for the third quarter alone. This represents a 6.9% increase compared to the same period last year (3.4590 trillion won).
On a controlling shareholders’ equity basis, cumulative net income for the third quarter was 3.6243 trillion won, a 5.56% increase from the same period last year (3.4334 trillion won). Net income attributable to controlling shareholders—which excludes the portion of the group’s total net income allocated to minority shareholders of subsidiaries—represents the actual profit attributable to the financial holding company’s shareholders.
Third-quarter earnings showed an upward trend compared to both the same period last year and the previous quarter. Net income attributable to controlling shareholders in the third quarter was 1.2214 trillion won, a 2.4% increase from the previous quarter (1.1928 trillion won).
HanaFinancialGroupInc.’s annual net income attributable to controlling shareholders last year was 4.0029 trillion won, a record high. If the net income earned through the third quarter of this year is combined with approximately 378.6 billion won in the fourth quarter, it will surpass last year’s annual results. Considering that net income for each of the first three quarters of this year exceeded 1 trillion won, there is a high likelihood that the company will set a new record for annual earnings.
HanaFinancialGroupInc. explained that rapid growth in core earnings drove the overall improvement in performance. Cumulative fee income for the first three quarters increased by 29.8% year-over-year. In particular, the share of fee income within core earnings rose by 2.7 percentage points—from 19.6% in the same period last year to 22.3%—contributing to the diversification of the group’s revenue structure. Interest income (7.4832 trillion won) and fee income (2.1428 trillion won) totaled 9.6260 trillion won, a 14.2% (1.1953 trillion won) increase compared to the same period last year.
Capital adequacy ratios were also managed stably. The cumulative loan loss provision ratio for the first three quarters of this year stood at 0.30%, remaining within the Group’s management plan target range. The loan loss provision ratio is an indicator of the burden of provisions set aside to cover potential losses on loan receivables and other assets.
Hana Bank, a core affiliate, also continued to post solid results. Hana Bank’s cumulative consolidated net income for the first three quarters of this year, based on the equity attributable to owners of the parent, was 3.3157 trillion won, an increase of 5.8% (182.4 billion won) compared to the same period last year. Net income for the third quarter alone was 1.1946 trillion won.
In particular, fee income drove the improvement in earnings. Cumulative fee income for the first three quarters reached 874 billion won, an increase of 11.5% (90.4 billion won) compared to the same period last year, marking a record high on a cumulative basis. This performance was supported by increased fees related to retirement pensions and bancassurance (insurance products sold through banks), as well as higher foreign exchange fees and trading gains resulting from an expansion in the customer base for import and export transactions.
In addition, non-bank affiliates—Hana Securities, Hana Card, and Hana Capital—reported cumulative third-quarter net profits of 283.4 billion won, 175.3 billion won, and 144.5 billion won, respectively.
Along with improved earnings, Hana Financial Group is also expanding shareholder returns. The Hana Financial Group board of directors resolved today to conduct a 250 billion won share buyback and cancellation, as well as a quarterly cash dividend of 1,165 won per share. The quarterly dividend represents a 26.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Consequently, the total annual share buyback and cancellation for this year is expected to reach 949 billion won, including the 699 billion won in buybacks completed through the third quarter. This represents a 25.8% increase from last year’s annual total of 754.1 billion won and marks a record high.
