OpenAI Security Alliance Discovers PHP Vulnerability… Korean Companies Join as Well
PHP Vulnerability Discovered Using GPT 5.6 Sol
Leveraging Open Source Initiatives
Support Ranging from Vulnerability Detection to Verification and Response
Samsung SDS, S2W, Aim, and Daybreak Join the Ranks
[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] The global cybersecurity project “Patch the Planet,” led by OpenAI, is drawing attention following the discovery of a PHP security vulnerability that could affect websites worldwide.

Launched in June, “Patch the Planet” is part of OpenAI’s cybersecurity initiative “Daybreak.” While Daybreak represents OpenAI’s overall cybersecurity program, “Patch the Planet” is a sub-initiative within it focused on open-source vulnerabilities.
OpenAI first disclosed details regarding the PHP vulnerabilities on the 21st. Cybersecurity research firm Calif discovered them using GPT-5.6 Sol as part of the “Patch the Planet” initiative. Wiz, a cloud security company acquired by Google in March of this year, also independently discovered the two vulnerabilities.
OpenAI introduced “Patch the Planet,” stating, “We expect a surge in similar discoveries over the next few months,” and adding, “Based on our experience so far, we need an AI-era approach to address critical vulnerabilities in widely used software.”
The initiative is expanding its scope of collaboration beyond vulnerability detection to include verification, risk assessment, and the sharing of response strategies. OpenAI is sharing detailed response strategies, such as releasing a tool for checking PHP versions as open source on GitHub.

As AI-driven cybersecurity threats grow, there is a widespread recognition of the need for a joint response to these threats. Consequently, various security initiatives are actively underway, led not only by OpenAI but also by several global IT companies. Notable examples include Project Glasswing, led by Anthropic, and Project QuiltWorks, led by CrowdStrike, Inc. Anthropic announced that, as of June of this year, it had identified more than 10,000 critical security vulnerabilities through Project Glasswing.
Several South Korean companies are also participating in OpenAI’s security alliance. Samsung SDS (SAMSUNG SDS CO., LTD.(018260)) was the first to be named a pilot partner in the Daybreak Partner Program. S2W Inc. (S2W) has joined the “Daybreak Defense Network,” Daybreak’s global partner ecosystem.
OpenAI revealed last month that it was in discussions with more than five Korean companies regarding Daybreak collaboration, so the number of participating companies is expected to grow. On the 23rd, AI security specialist Aim Intelligence announced that it had newly joined the OpenAI Partner Network as a Select Partner.
Aim Intelligence unveiled an application security assessment service that integrates its AI red team solution, “Stinger,” with Daybreak. Yoo Sang-yoon, CEO of Aim Intelligence, said, “By combining Stinger and Daybreak, we will provide security validation based on each organization’s code and service environment, and help more teams utilize it in their daily development and operations processes.”
