[Edaily Reporter YUN GI BACK ] The drama “The Second Signal” (Signal 2), whose broadcast schedule had become uncertain due to past controversies involving actor Jo Jin-woong, has resurfaced in the news. While there have been speculations that it will air this coming December, the production company has drawn a line, stating that nothing has been decided yet. However, with CJ ENM denying that the schedule has been finalized, it remains unclear whether the series will actually air before the end of the year. “Signal 2” is the sequel to “Signal,” which aired in 2016 and was widely loved. As the second season returning after a 10-year hiatus and a project planned to commemorate tvN’s 20th anniversary, it had garnered high expectations early on. Interest was also high because Kim Eun-hee, the screenwriter of the original series, was returning to write the script, and the lead actors—including Kim Hye-soo, Lee Je-hoon, and Jo Jin-woong—were set to reunite. However, the series’ release was put on hold last December when news broke of Jo Jin-woong’s past as a juvenile offender. As the controversy spread, Jo Jin-woong announced his retirement from the entertainment industry, and “Signal 2”—which had already completed filming—was left in limbo without a confirmed release date. At the time, the production team stated, “This is a project we have prepared with great care, aiming for a release in the second half of 2026, as a token of our gratitude to viewers who have waited 10 years,” adding, “Even if it takes a little longer, we will spare no effort to find the best solution for both the show and our viewers.” As “Signal 2” is a highly anticipated sequel to a popular intellectual property (IP) that has required a massive production budget and a long preparation period, there is significant interest in whether it will actually air. In particular, the release of the entire series has been affected by the personal life controversy involving a lead actor, and the repercussions are now being felt by the production team, other cast members, and viewers alike. While the series’ fate is once again drawing attention following rumors of a December broadcast slot, the exact airing date remains uncertain as CJ ENM maintains a cautious stance.
