[Edaily Reporter YUN GI BACK ] The boy band VIBY, which took the stage at Tokyo’s Budokan just over two months after their debut in Japan, is set to launch activities in Korea. This move follows their strategy of first building a fan base in Japan before expanding their activities to Korean music shows. VIBY (Photo: Riem J) According to their agency, Riem J, VIBY will appear on KBS2’s “Music Bank,” airing on the 30th, to perform the Korean version of “Gotcha.” This marks their first appearance on a domestic music show. “Gotcha” is a dance-pop track that blends upbeat guitar riffs with stylish synthesizer sounds. The group plans to greet Korean fans with a performance characterized by a bright and refreshing vibe. VIBY spent about two years as trainees in Korea before officially debuting in Japan last June. Although they chose Japan as their first market, they have drawn attention as a group that grew through the K-pop training system. On the 26th, they released “HANAMARU” and the Korean version of “Gotcha,” completing their preparations for their entry into the Korean market. Their achievements in Japan are also noteworthy. Just 68 days after their debut, VIBY performed at Tokyo’s Budokan—a venue with a capacity of approximately 10,000—hosting their showcase “VIBY LAND.” According to their agency, they set the record for the fastest time any Japanese artist has reached the Budokan after debut. They have also expanded their scope of activities by appearing in global brand advertisements. VIBY is the first boy group from the Japanese label Rii.MJ, led by Executive Producer Kim Mi-jeong, who has experience discovering K-pop artists. Their approach—training in Korea, debuting in Japan, and then expanding their activities back to Korea—can be seen as a new model for overseas expansion utilizing the K-pop production system. Starting with “Music Bank,” B.I.B. plans to appear on major domestic music shows one after another to expand their connection with Korean fans.
