[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] “Liar” premiered.
The first episode of MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama “Liar,” which aired on the 30th, recorded a nationwide household viewership rating of 1.9% (Nielsen Korea). On that day, Kang Ji-sun (played by Seo Hyun-jin), an elementary school librarian, mistook Min Jun-ho (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) for an author who had come to give a special lecture to the children. Finding himself suddenly standing in front of the children, Min Jun-ho—true to his profession as a cardiac surgeon—told them a story about the heart. Although their encounter began with a misunderstanding, it left a deep impression on both of them. Later, Kang Ji-sun discovered that Min Jun-ho was the father of Min Hyun-soo (played by Kang Ji-yong), a student she had been particularly concerned about. Min Jun-ho, who reunited with Kang Ji-sun regarding his son’s matter, mustered the courage to ask her out on a date, but Kang Ji-sun turned him down because he was a parent. However, the two met again by chance and eventually went on a date. On their first date, Kang Ji-seon was drawn to Min Jun-ho, who appeared confident but was actually a bit clumsy, and Min Jun-ho also felt that they were a good match in many ways. After their first date, Min Jun-ho drove Kang Ji-seon home. When it started pouring rain, Kang Ji-seon invited Min Jun-ho into her house to take shelter. For the 40 minutes it took for a taxi to arrive, Min Jun-ho and Kang Ji-seon spent time alone together at her place. The next day, Min Jun-ho went to work with a happy expression, but Kang Ji-seon, upon waking up, felt quite differently. While she lay on the floor crying for a long time, a text message and a package from Min Jun-ho arrived. Kang Ji-seon didn’t even go to work; instead, she went to see her older sister, Kang Ji-eun (played by Kim Ji-hyun). She then reported Min Jun-ho to the police on charges of sexual assault. Trembling, Kang Ji-seon told the police the entire truth about that day as she remembered it, and the police immediately arrested Min Jun-ho, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Subsequently, Min Jun-ho and Kang Ji-sun began presenting completely opposing accounts of the incident. Min Jun-ho insisted it was never forced, while Kang Ji-sun claimed it was. The two took completely different stances, even going so far as to claim that the other had initiated the kiss. The episode ended with Min Jun-ho saying, “Did you know it would turn out like this? I knew from the moment we first met,” followed by a scene of the two kissing, leaving viewers wondering what the truth of that day really was and which of the two was actually lying. “Liar” is a psychological thriller drama in which a man and a woman make diametrically opposed claims about a single memory and clash fiercely in their pursuit of the truth. It stars actors Seo Hyun-jin and Yoo Yeon-seok and is directed by Jo Young-min, who previously helmed “Do You Like Brahms?,” “The Understanding of Love,” and “Eun-joong and Sang-yeon.” Meanwhile, “Doctor X,” which aired in the same time slot, recorded a nationwide household viewership rating of 16.5%. “Liar” airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:50 p.m.
