[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] KTCorporation(030200)is training retired employees to become artificial intelligence (AI) instructors to help older adults use AI. This is a “peer-to-peer education” approach, in which instructors of a similar age teach seniors how to use AI.

KTCorporation announced on the 1st that, in collaboration with Seongnam City, it will launch a four-week pilot program for generative AI training for seniors starting on the 6th at the “Seongnam City Single-Person Household Healing Space.”

The program is aimed at approximately 20 single-person households aged 60 to 69 residing in Seongnam City. Forty-five senior IT supporters—all former KTCorporation employees who have retired or left the company—will serve as instructors. KTCorporation has newly selected nine retired instructors specifically for this program.

The training is based on the generative AI course from AICE (AI Certificate for Everyone), KTCorporation’s AI proficiency training and certification program, and has been tailored to the seniors’ level of understanding. The program consists of eight sessions covering everything from basic concepts to real-life applications.

In the introductory course, participants learn the basic concepts of generative AI and how to formulate questions. In the advanced course, they practice using AI to find practical information and distinguish between real and fake information. They also participate in an activity where they turn their own stories into books. The program focuses not merely on learning how to use AI, but on developing the ability to find and utilize information in daily life.

Based on the results of this pilot program, KTCorporation plans to expand its “Outreach AI Education for Seniors” program nationwide.

KTCorporation IT Supporters is a digital inclusion initiative operated by KTCorporation and the KTCorporation Group Hope Sharing Foundation since 2007. Approximately 150 instructors nationwide—including retired KTCorporation employees and women returning to the workforce after a career break—provide training on AI coding, digital device usage, and voice phishing prevention. In remote and mountainous areas, the program also operates a mobile AI experience center called the “AI Station.”

The education venue, the Seongnam City Single-Person Household Healing Space, is a support facility for single-person households opened by Seongnam City in July 2023 in Hadaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu. It offers spaces for rest and reading, as well as psychological counseling, club activities, and humanities lectures. There are 134,409 single-person households in Seongnam City, accounting for 35.1% of all households.
