TOP Issues Belated Apology Amid Controversy Over 20-Year Fan Page Closure… “I’m Sorry to the Fans Who Were Hurt”
Company Issues Statement Three Weeks After Announcing the Closure of Its Fan Page
"To the management team who have shown us such devoted love over the years… I will never forget you."
[Edaily Starin JOO MEE_HEE Reporter] T.O.P (real name Choi Seung-hyun), a singer and actor formerly of the group Big Bang, has belatedly apologized regarding the controversy surrounding the closure of a fan page that had supported him for 20 years. T.O.P. On the 1st, T.O.P posted a lengthy message on his social media, stating, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the administrators of Choi Seung-hyun.com, who have been with me throughout these past 20 long years,” and conveyed his thanks and apologies to the fan page administrators and fans. This comes about three weeks after the fan page announced it would cease operations last month. He expressed his gratitude to the fans who had stood by him for so long, saying, “Even in moments when I myself found it hard to believe in myself, you believed in me and always gave me the strength to create music again with your warm hearts and precious support.” He continued, “I will never forget the time and effort you consistently poured into maintaining that space, nor the precious sincerity of all the fans who came together with me.” He also explained why the statement was delayed. T.O.P. said, “Given the various circumstances, I felt I had to be cautious with every word I spoke, so it took some time to convey my feelings,” adding, “I wanted to express my sincere feelings directly, even if belatedly.” He particularly addressed the fan page administrators, emphasizing, “You have shown me devoted love for longer than anyone else and have been a great source of support,” and added, “I hope that even the years we spent together will not be remembered as a source of misunderstanding or hurt.” He continued, “I am well aware that the interest and love you show me are by no means something to be taken for granted,” and bowed his head, saying, “I offer my sincere apologies to the administrators and fans who were misunderstood or hurt because of me.” Previously, T.O.P.’s main fan page, “Choi Seung-hyun.com,” announced last month that it would cease operations. The fan page had been active for approximately 20 years, since T.O.P.’s debut in 2006. The administrators claimed that they had served as a communication channel between the agency and the fans, handling various operational tasks. However, they explained that they decided to shut down the site due to difficulties caused by a lack of communication from the agency and the shifting of workloads onto them. It was reported that they also expressed regret toward T.O.P. during this process. In his apology, T.O.P focused on expressing gratitude and regret to the fans who have supported him for so long, rather than addressing the specific issues raised by the management team. Meanwhile, marking the 20th anniversary of his debut this year, T.O.P. is continuing his music career with the release of his first solo full-length album, “Multiple Perspectives.” Recently, he also confirmed his romantic relationship with singer and actress Nana, a former member of the group After School. The two met while filming the music video for T.O.P.’s new song “I’m Completely Crazy!” and are said to have begun dating in June.
