[Edaily Reporter Han Kwangbeom ] Naver (NAVER(035420)) Cloud has joined forces with the Army Logistics Command to establish a “combat-ready AI logistics” system that integrates AI across all areas of military logistics, including procurement, maintenance, and logistics.
Naver Cloud announced on the 2nd that it signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Optimizing Future Battlefield Environments and Strengthening Combat-Ready AI Logistics Capabilities” at the Army Logistics Command in Daejeon on the 30th of last month. The signing ceremony was attended by Army Logistics Commander Park Chun-sik and Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won, among others.
The Army Logistics Command oversees all aspects of Army logistics, including supply, maintenance, and transportation. As new weapon systems—such as manned-unmanned integrated systems and drones—expand, transforming the logistics systems that support them into data- and AI-driven systems has emerged as a key challenge.
The two parties plan to first jointly develop and demonstrate AI services that can be immediately applied to logistics operations.
Key projects include a military-specific procurement platform utilizing performance-based AI matching; Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM+), which analyzes weapon system status data to perform maintenance before failures occur; and digital twin-based smart logistics and smart factories.
To this end, Naver Cloud will provide consulting on GPU infrastructure utilization and support the establishment of a logistics-specific cloud environment. It also plans to deploy Chonbang Field Deployment Engineers (FDEs) to develop logistics AI agents that automate repetitive tasks and identify new AI projects utilizing logistics data.
It will also support the training of AI talent in the military logistics sector, as well as the operation and advancement of the platform. Naver Cloud plans to use this collaboration as an opportunity to apply the AI and cloud capabilities it has built up in the defense sector to actual military logistics operations and expand them into the military AX ecosystem.
Kim Yu-won, CEO of Naver Cloud, stated, “Logistics is a field where vast amounts of data—from procurement to maintenance and logistics—move in real time, making it an area where the benefits of AI transformation can be most significantly realized.” He added, “Together with the Army Logistics Command, we will create field-proven, combat-ready AI logistics models and contribute to building South Korea’s military AX ecosystem.”
Naver Cloud is expanding its cooperation in the defense sector this year by pursuing the joint development of defense-specific AI models with KOREA AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES (KAI) and participating in the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s AX hub project alongside Korea University’s C5ISRT Convergence Research Center.
Last September, the company held a “Defense AI Strategy Seminar” attended by approximately 550 officials from the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the various branches of the military, where it presented a defense AX cooperation model that allows the military to rapidly adopt civilian technologies while maintaining control over data and AI models.
