(Photo: KBS2) Episode 779 of KBS2’s “Immortal Songs,” airing on the 7th, will be a special tribute to the late Jeon Yu-sung, a legend of Korean comedy, marking the first anniversary of his passing.
For this special episode, junior comedians from the three major broadcasters—KBS, MBC, and SBS—as well as colleagues who shared special bonds with the late Jeon Yu-sung in the entertainment industry will take the stage to honor his memory. Starting with host Shin Dong-yup, a full lineup of legends will take the stage, including Lee Chan-won, Kim Jun-hyun, Kim Shin-young, Yang Hee-eun, Kwon In-ha, Han Young-ae, Lee Eun-gyeol, the “Gag Concert” team, Kim Jeong-ryeol, Lee Kyung-sil, Jo Hye-ryeon, Park Jun-hyung, Zoltan (Lee Jae-hyung, Han Hyun-min, and Jeong Jin-wook), and Ahn Young-mi.
Among them, host Lee Chan-won has prepared a reenactment of “Hyung-nim-a,” a popular segment from the 2000s SBS show *People Looking for Laughter*, alongside Kim Shin-young. Lee Chan-won captivates the audience by effortlessly showcasing various regional dialects.
Later, during the scene where he lifts Kim Shin-young—a trademark gag of “Hyung-nim-ah”—he seems a bit overwhelmed and quips, “Our Shin-young has gotten a lot heavier.” Kim Shin-young wittily replies, “My heart has gotten lighter,” drawing laughter from the audience.
Despite this being their first time performing together, the two dominated the stage with fantastic chemistry. Lee Chan-won flawlessly pulled off everything from showing affection for his “younger sister” Kim Shin-young to a clumsy performance where he stuttered.
Kim Shin-young also drew laughter when Lee Chan-won tried to hoist her onto his back, saying, “You have a lot of fans here, bro. I know how to keep my personal and professional lives separate.” She then added to the fun by shouting, “I’ll carry you,” and effortlessly hoisting him onto her back.
Shin Dong-yup also showed his passion that day, not as an MC but as a comedian on the open comedy stage. Appearing in the segment as the teacher—the scene-stealer of “2026 Bongsoonga Academy”—Shin Dong-yup reportedly delivered a stellar performance, seemingly returning to his heyday as a comedian. He displayed wit at just the right moments, such as handing Park Jun-hyung—known as “Galgali”—a pineapple hidden under the teacher’s desk when Park began tearing up props, leaving him flustered.
“Immortal” is a program where various singers reinterpret and perform classic songs across a wide range of genres. It is considered one of KBS’s flagship long-running programs, having aired for over 700 episodes. It airs every Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
