In Episode 9 of tvN’s 20th-anniversary special Saturday-Sunday drama *100 Days of Lies*, which aired on the 7th, the Salvation Corps’ third operation unfolded against the backdrop of a banquet celebrating the opening of the Korean Government-General’s Ki Song-gwan. The plan, which targeted Shinichi Sato (played by Jin Seon-kyu), faced a crisis as unexpected situations unfolded one after another.
That day, Lee Ga-kyung (played by Kim Yoo-jung) learned from Yoo So-ran (played by Kim Hyun-joo) that she would be leaving for the United States the following night. It was an opportunity arranged by Yoo Philip (played by Lee Mu-saeng) at Yoo So-ran’s request. Although it was a trip to the U.S. she had longed for, Lee Ga-kyung’s heart was torn because she had to leave Kim Tae-woong (played by Park Jin-young) behind.
Kim Tae-woong was also in turmoil. He was enraged after witnessing Korean boys being humiliated and beaten by Japanese police. His bitterness deepened when the police—who had ignored him simply because he was Korean—suddenly changed their attitude upon learning that he was “Hideo Sato,” the son of the Chief of General Affairs.
The two faced their farewell without sharing their true feelings with one another. On her last day at work, Lee Ga-kyung returned the pawn ticket to Kim Tae-woong’s desk drawer. When Kim Tae-woong found it and asked if she no longer wanted to be involved with him, Lee Ga-kyung confessed, “I liked you. Kim Tae-woong as a person,” she confessed. However, his reply was, “My name is Hideo Sato. Not Kim Tae-woong.” Even in that moment of sincerity, the distance between them did not narrow.
That evening, the National Salvation Corps launched their operation at the banquet hall. Yoo So-ran and Yoo Philip, who had been invited as a foreign press couple, entered the venue, and Lee Ga-kyung prepared the bomb alongside Yoo So-ran. Yoo Philip served as the English interpreter, diverting Sato Shinichi’s attention.
There was a crisis when Kim Tae-woong and his group approached the office where the bomb was being assembled, but Lee Ga-kyung’s quick thinking allowed them to avoid detection. Later, when a congratulatory message from the Japanese Prime Minister arrived, Lee Ga-kyung contacted the kitchen, and Song Jeon (played by Jeon Yong-beop), who had infiltrated as a kitchen assistant, rang the fire alarm. Taking advantage of the chaos, Yoo So-ran hid the time bomb among the floral arrangements, and the plan seemed to be proceeding smoothly.
However, the situation took a turn for the worse when the Governor-General’s wife ordered the floral arrangements to be removed, citing the Governor-General’s high fever. Lee Ga-kyung found the bomb among the discarded floral arrangements in the hallway and hid it inside a large cake being carried into the banquet hall.
The scheduled time of the explosion was 6:20 p.m. With only the moment remaining to carry out the operation—timed to coincide with the Governor-General’s toast—Kim Tae-woong emerged as an unexpected variable. The Governor-General had assigned him to interpret the toast, forcing him to stand near the cake containing the bomb. As the sound of the toast echoed through the banquet hall, Lee Ga-kyung’s anxious gaze fixed on Kim Tae-woong kept viewers on the edge of their seats, eager to see what would happen next.
Episode 9 recorded a nationwide average viewership rating of 7.4% and a peak of 9.2%, with an average of 8.2% and a peak of 10.5% in the Seoul metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea’s paid platform data. It ranked first among cable and general entertainment channels in its time slot.
Episode 10 of “100 Days of Lies” will air on the 8th at 9:10 p.m.
