LGD Secures Global Automotive Software Standard ‘ASPICE’… Demonstrates Technological Leadership

Software Integrated into Displays for Instrument Panels and Center Consoles In the SDV Era, Equipping Automotive Displays with Hardware and Software Competitiveness

[Edaily Reporter Kim So-yeon] LG Display has been recognized for its display technology capabilities, which combine software quality and reliability. LG Display announced on the 2nd that it has obtained Level 2 (CL2, Capability Level 2) certification under “ASPICE (Automotive SPICE),” the automotive software development standard, from the certification body C&BIS.

LG Display earned the ASPICE certification by integrating its proprietary diagnostic and control functions into displays for automotive instrument panels and center consoles. By incorporating its own software (SW), the company demonstrated technological leadership not only in display hardware but also in software. The company explained that this proves its capability to ensure software quality and reliability as a key partner in automotive electronics systems.

ASPICE is an international standard established by the automotive industry to evaluate the software development capabilities and reliability of automotive electronics component manufacturers. With the recent surge in electronic control units (ECUs) installed in vehicles, even a single software defect can lead to a major accident, making thorough management of all related components essential from the development stage. Accordingly, ASPICE evaluates whether systematic processes are in place throughout the entire automotive software development lifecycle.

Following its achievement last December of becoming the first company in the display industry to obtain the “International Standard for Automotive Cybersecurity Engineering (ISO/SAE 21434),” LG Display has now secured ASPICE certification as well, demonstrating its competitiveness in the automotive display sector.

The company plans to use this certification as an opportunity to strengthen its competitiveness in securing new orders in global automotive markets, including North America. It aims to further solidify strategic partnerships with customers in the SDV market.

Kwon Geuk-sang, Head of the Auto Business Group at LG Display, stated, “This certification recognizes that LG Display’s automotive displays possess not only hardware excellence but also high-quality software-related technical capabilities.” He added, “Moving forward, we will continue to advance as a ‘technology-centric company’ that strengthens its leadership in the automotive display market based on our unique and differentiated technological capabilities.”
