(Photo = Kakao Pay) This year, going beyond a simple donation, Kakao Pay launched a user-participation environmental campaign titled “A Forest Letter That Arrived One Day” using the Kakao Pay platform to widely promote the value of Gotjawal to the public and share the value of mutual growth.
The campaign allowed users to raise and observe rare flora and fauna native to the Gotjawal within the KakaoPay app and then share their progress with friends. When a user tapped the “Share” button, KakaoPay contributed 100 won on their behalf. While sharing was unlimited, donations were credited only for the first share, raising a total of 10 million won.
The full amount of KakaoPay’s donation will be used through the Jeju Gotjawal Public Trust to purchase privately owned Gotjawal land, thereby enhancing the sustainability of its conservation and management.
Meanwhile, the Jeju Gotjawal Public Ownership Foundation is a non-profit foundation established in 2007 that has been leading the Gotjawal public ownership movement through activities such as purchasing private land to protect Gotjawal, operating ecological experience centers, and conducting education and research.
KakaoPay stated, “This campaign is significant not only as a simple financial contribution but also because it provided users with the experience of directly contributing to solving the global challenge of environmental and biodiversity conservation through KakaoPay.” The company added, “We will continue to carry out distinctive initiatives to fulfill our social responsibilities in the environmental sector, which is at the core of ESG management.”
