The KCC announced on the 5th that it has launched a series titled “Telecom Tips for the Public” in collaboration with #SK Telecom, #KT, #LG Uplus, and the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA).

"Telecom Tips for the Public" is a joint promotional campaign designed to convey complex telecommunications service policies and practical, everyday information in an easy-to-understand and entertaining way tailored to the public’s perspective.

All videos are produced in a short format of less than one minute. Generative AI technology was utilized to ensure that key information can be quickly understood even amidst busy daily lives.

The first video, released in celebration of Family Month, introduced how to set up spam and voice phishing number blocking features on parents’ mobile phones. It provides guidance on how to prevent malicious calls in advance by using spam and voice phishing blocking apps offered by each mobile carrier.

In June, to coincide with the World Cup season, the campaign plans to introduce ways to safely use public Wi-Fi outdoors and protect personal information.

The Korea Communications Commission and the telecommunications industry plan to continue jointly selecting topics closely related to people’s daily lives and of high public interest, releasing videos sequentially every two to three weeks.

The videos will be released simultaneously on the official YouTube channels of the KCC and the three major mobile carriers.

Future topics will include guidance on changes in mobile phone purchasing policies following the repeal of the Mobile Terminal Distribution Act, as well as emergency charging methods for low battery situations during the vacation season.

The KCC explained that the purpose of this campaign is to help the public easily and enjoyably access verified information and apply it to their daily lives, noting that the recent rise in fake news—often spread through AI and social media—has made it increasingly difficult for people to discern accurate information.

Ban Sang-kwon, spokesperson for the KCC, stated, “The core of this initiative is for the government and the private sector to collaborate in delivering useful information to the public in an easy and accurate manner,” adding, “We will continue to identify and promote beneficial telecommunications information that the public can tangibly experience in their daily lives.”
