Since 2017, Goyang Special Self-Governing City has been operating a program—the first of its kind among local governments nationwide—to systematically train middle-aged and older residents as MICE professionals. The 110 graduates from the first six sessions are currently gaining practical experience by working at various MICE events, including exhibitions, fairs, and international conferences. Some have successfully secured new jobs at MICE-related organizations and companies, paving the way for a second career.
The training is conducted in stages, covering MICE-related theory and practical skills, special lectures by experts, field trips to relevant facilities, image consulting, and hands-on practice in managing international events. The Foundation plans to support these middle-aged and older adults not only in strengthening their employability and capacity for social participation but also in growing into professionals who can lead the local MICE industry.

Graduates of the program will be offered opportunities to work as operations staff for various events held in Goyang City and at the Goyang City MICE information desk. As Goyang City is home to KINTEX, the largest exhibition and convention center in the country, it hosts international conferences, exhibitions, and trade shows of various scales throughout the year, resulting in high demand for professional event management personnel.
Applications can be submitted online via the Goyang Convention Bureau website. Detailed information regarding the training program is also available on the website. Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Exhibition Foundation, stated, “We will enhance the quality of service in Goyang’s MICE industry by strengthening practical training and on-site connections, thereby leveraging the rich social experience and capabilities of middle-aged and older adults as a driving force for regional industrial growth.”
