LG Electronics Urges Action on Climate Change via Outdoor Billboards in the U.S. and U.K.

Conducting Environmental Protection Activities at Domestic and Overseas Facilities

[Edaily Reporter Kim So-yeon] LG Electronics is launching a campaign on outdoor billboards in the U.S. and the U.K. urging people to join the fight against climate change. The company is raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection around the world.

LG Electronics announced on the 7th that it will screen a World Environment Day video produced by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on outdoor billboards operating in Times Square, New York, and Piccadilly Circus, London, until the 13th (local time).

The World Environment Day video raises awareness about climate change by showing scenes of wildfires, heatwaves, and shrinking glaciers. It also introduces efforts to address climate change, such as the transition to renewable energy and forest restoration, while conveying the message “Now For Climate.”

The video campaign is part of LG Electronics’ global corporate social responsibility program, “LG Hope Screen.” Since 2011, LG Electronics has been screening public service videos from international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on digital billboards at landmarks in New York and London.

Employees working at LG Electronics’ domestic and international sites are also carrying out various environmental protection activities from April through June. This year, 28 sites worldwide are participating.

Employees at LG Smart Park in Changwon visited Jinhae Marine Park earlier this month to conduct a beach cleanup, walking along the shoreline to collect trash. Employees at LG Digital Park in Pyeongtaek visited a nearby stream to carry out water purification activities aimed at removing pollutants accumulated on the riverbed.

Employees at the Malaysian subsidiary collected discarded appliances, while those in Mexico participated in tree-planting activities. The Indonesian subsidiary plans to plant coral reefs at a beach near its facility to restore the marine ecosystem.
