[Edaily Starin Reporter Lee Seok-moo] “19-year-old rising star” Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) won the Formula One (F1) Monaco Grand Prix (GP), extending his winning streak to five consecutive victories.
Antonelli crossed the finish line first with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, 31.243 seconds in the final race of the 2026 F1 World Championship’s sixth round, the Monaco GP, held on the 8th (KST) at the Monte Carlo Street Circuit in Monaco. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) finished second, 6.271 seconds behind, while Isaac Azar (Red Bull) took third place.

Notably, by winning the Monaco Grand Prix at the age of 19 years and 286 days, he broke the record for the youngest winner of this race, previously held by Hamilton.
Additionally, Antonnellì has accumulated 156 points in the drivers’ standings, extending his lead over second-place Hamilton (90 points) to 66 points. His teammate George Russell (Mercedes) finished 12th due to the aftermath of a penalty and failed to score any points.
The race was chaotic from the start. Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who was scheduled to start from second on the grid, was effectively unable to compete properly due to a car malfunction. From the midpoint of the race onward, accidents and penalties followed one after another. A total of seven drivers failed to finish the race. Another seven received five-second penalties for speeding in the pit lane.
The biggest turning point was the late-race red flag. Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) crashed into the barrier at the final corner on lap 60, followed by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) who also crashed at the same spot. The race was suspended for about 35 minutes as track surface damage was confirmed.
The race resumed with a standing start on lap 71. Antonelli, who had been in the lead, faced pressure from Hamilton but remained unshaken. After defending Turn 1 immediately following the restart, he managed the remaining laps steadily to secure the victory.
After the race, Antonelli said, “It was an unbelievable weekend. The car felt really good, and I was able to push with confidence.” He added, “But it’s not over yet. The season is long, and we have to keep raising the bar.”
