"What Should We Dress Our Robot in?"... Hanse Industries Unveils Humanoid Clothing
Hanse Industries Hosts 'Wear the Future Media Day'
Strategies to Capture the Robot Apparel Market Using AI and Virtual Technologies
Application of Functional Technologies Such as Cooling, High Elasticity, and High Durability
[Edaily Reporter Kim Eung-tae] “If a future arrives where humanoids (human-shaped robots) become part of our lives, we will need clothing for them to wear. Hanse Industries will be the first company to explore and prepare for new possibilities in the future apparel market.” Kim Ik-hwan, Vice Chairman of Hansae Corporation, delivers a presentation at the “Wear the Future Media Day” event held on the 8th at the Textile Center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. (Photo: Reporter Kim Eung-tae) Kim Ik-hwan, Vice Chairman of #Hansae Corporation, made these remarks at the “Wear the Future Media Day” event held on the 8th at the Textile Center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. “Hansae Corporation’s DNA lies in always being the first to try,” he said, adding, “Following our adoption of 3D design and artificial intelligence (AI), we have begun exploring ways to prepare for the upcoming era of humanoids.” He continued, “I believe the robot market could expand rapidly to the point where every household has one or two humanoids,” adding, “We will explore various markets, including residential and industrial sectors, and launch related apparel businesses in time for the commercialization of robots.” #Hanse Industries, a company specializing in Original Design Manufacturing (ODM), has unveiled a concept for humanoid clothing targeting the emerging market as the humanoid industry ecosystem gains momentum. The humanoid clothing, developed in-house by Hanse Industries, is characterized by designs optimized for robotic body structures while maintaining a human-centric form. The designs are differentiated based on the roles and purposes of the humanoids, aiming to minimize the sense of alienation users might feel as humans and humanoids coexist in future society. The company showcased clothing concepts for a wide range of applications, from humanoids assisting with caregiving tasks to those used for gardening, personal training, and even industrial robots. A prime example is the use of heat-dissipation technology and cooling materials to mitigate heat buildup that can occur during prolonged operation. Additionally, functional fabrics with excellent shape retention and abrasion resistance were adopted to maintain a stable fit across various environments. Furthermore, considering the humanoid’s range of motion, the design incorporates open structures and three-dimensional patterns at key joints such as the shoulders and knees to enable natural movement. Son Ji-yeon, Director of the R&D Division at Hansae Industries, stated, “Since humanoids generate a significant amount of heat, we designed the clothing using breathable mesh materials and stretch fabrics to allow joints to move comfortably.” #HanseMK, a fashion subsidiary of the Hanse Yes24 Group, also participated in this project and unveiled a humanoid collection that emphasizes fashion elements. The company stated that it applied a sensibility combining vintage mood and rock spirit to the humanoid clothing through HanseMK’s new apparel brand, “the B Archive.” Son Ji-yeon, Director of the R&D Division at Hansae Industries, explains industrial humanoid clothing. In 2019, Hanse Industries became the first in the domestic apparel industry to establish a dedicated Virtual Design (VD) team and introduced 3D virtual sample production technology. Since 2023, the company has operated a dedicated AI team, integrating AI into various areas ranging from planning to design and development. Hansae Industries plans to leverage its accumulated apparel technology in the humanoid clothing industry to lead the future market. Director Son emphasized, “We possess technologies related to thermal management, elasticity, durability, lightweighting, and protective functions,” adding, “Based on our functional materials and apparel technology, we aim to become a leader capable of creating new possibilities in the future apparel market.” An official from Hanse Industries explained, “We plan to produce related products in time for the commercialization of robots,” adding, “We are currently in contact with several robot manufacturers.”
