Noru Paint announced on the 10th that it had appliedheat-reflective water-based waterproof paint to the roof of the Banpo Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Seoulin collaboration with the non-profit startup “People Who Care About the Environment.” Roofs are spaces directly exposed to solar heat and are areas where the urban heat island effect is concentrated. This initiative was launched to improve rooftop spaces that were difficult to use due to high summer temperatures, allowing local residents to enjoy them more comfortably. It is significant as a community-oriented environmental improvement activity that addresses both heatwaves and urban environmental quality. The heat-reflective water-based waterproof paint applied in this project reflects solar heat, preventing the rooftop surface temperature from rising. It is also water-resistant, blocking external moisture and protecting the building from damage. This enhances effectiveness in terms of preventing rooftop leaks and facilitating maintenance. Furthermore, as the temperature of the rooftop surface is regulated, less energy is required for cooling, naturally reducing carbon emissions. The company explains that this is emerging as a solution to the climate crisis. This project was carried out as a collaborative social contribution initiative involving environmental organizations and the local community. Employees of Noru Paint also participated directly in the construction process, adding further significance to the project. Participants painted designs on the rooftop floor to convey environmental messages. This has also enhanced the value of the space as a living area that the local community can use together. Noru Paint stated that it will not stop at one-time support but will continue to operate in a way that ensures the practical usability and improvement of local community spaces. A company representative said, “We believe it is important to create tangible changes that people can experience in urban living spaces,” adding, “We plan to continue various activities that address the climate crisis and engage with the local community.”
