According toCJ Logistics on the 15th, the company recentlyannounced safety measures for the extreme heat andguidelines for preventing heat-related illnesses via its delivery driver app and other channels, and has begun a special management period from June to September.
CJ Logistics guarantees delivery drivers the right to voluntarily suspend deliveries in the event of health issues caused by extreme heat, as well as immunity from any resulting penalties. Drivers simply need to register the reason for suspension as “No Delivery Due to Extreme Heat” in the work app. This policy applies not only to extreme heat but also to adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain and heavy snow.
The company is also strengthening support for elderly drivers and those with underlying health conditions. For drivers aged 60 or older and those with pre-existing conditions, the company plans to check their health status—including blood pressure and body temperature—upon arrival at work and adjust delivery volumes as needed to reduce their workload.
Logistics centers and delivery terminals will implement rest period standards that exceed government recommendations. Outdoor workers are required to take a 10-minute break after 50 minutes of work, while indoor workers must take a 20-minute break after 100 minutes of work.
The company will also implement a “safety patrol” system, inspecting high-risk areas at each facility at least six times a day. It plans to strengthen guidelines for emergency response procedures in the event of heat-related illnesses and improve systems for gathering on-site feedback.
Digital-based safety management will also be expanded. The company will utilize “LoIS OnDo,” a temperature and humidity monitoring system developed by the CJ Logistics TES Logistics Technology Research Institute, to manage the perceived temperature in logistics centers in real time and provide risk alerts. This system is currently installed at 40 logistics centers nationwide.
Kim Yu-seung, Head of Safety Management at CJ Logistics, stated, “We are continuing our investment and support for the prevention of heat-related illnesses,” adding, “We will strengthen our field-centered management system to create a logistics environment that is safe from heatwave disasters.”
