[Edaily Reporter Shin Young-bin] Key AI executives from Anthropic visited Naver (#NAVER) to meet with local developers. This move appears to be part of Anthropic’s efforts to expand its network with leading Korean AI and cloud companies ahead of the launch of its Korean branch (Seoul office).
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 16th, Kaitlin Resi, Head of Platform Engineering at Anthropic, and Angela Jang, Head of Product, held a developer meetup for current Naver employees at the Naver Green Factory Connect Hall that morning. The event was organized through a company-wide pre-registration process, and it is estimated that approximately 100 to 200 people attended in person due to venue capacity limitations. It was reported that the actual number of Naver employees who participated in the event was higher, as it was also streamed online.
As the event was aimed at developers, it is believed that discussions focused on ways to enhance productivity in development environments using Claude technology, as well as experiences with AI and security-related technologies.
This meeting is noteworthy as a point of convergence between a leading domestic AI and cloud company and a global AI model company. Naver is a leading domestic AI company that possesses its own super-large AI model, cloud services, and data center infrastructure. It also has extensive experience operating large-scale services such as search, commerce, and content, as well as an internal developer organization.
Anthropic is recognized as a company leading the global frontier AI model competition alongside OpenAI and Google. With Claude at the forefront, it is expanding its presence in enterprise AI, developer tools, and AI safety and security. As the adoption of generative AI rapidly spreads into corporate workflows and development environments in Korea, interest is growing in the potential for Anthropic to expand its business in the country.
This event also coincides with Anthropic’s preparations to launch its Korean subsidiary. Anthropic recently appointed Choi Ki-young, former CEO of Snowflake Korea, as its Korea representative and is preparing to open an office in Seoul. This is interpreted as an initial step to broaden its reach among developers and enterprise customers in the Korean market.
However, it remains unclear whether this visit led to concrete discussions on cooperation between the two companies. Industry observers view this as primarily focused on technical exchange and expanding connections within the developer ecosystem rather than formal collaboration at this stage.
