Meditox’s Fat-Reducing Injection ‘NewViju’ Surpasses 10,000 Vials in Cumulative Sales

“NewViju,” the World’s First Fat-Reducing Injection Containing Cholic Acid (CA) Proven Competitiveness of Domestic New Drugs Through Unique Ingredients and Rapid Market Penetration

[Edaily Reporter Kim Seung-kwon] Biopharmaceutical company #Meditox announced on the 17th that “NUVIJU,” the world’s first fat-reduction injection containing colsan (CA), surpassed cumulative sales of 10,000 vials just two months after its launch.

“NUVIJU” is the first new drug in the domestic medical aesthetics market indicated for the reduction of moderate to severe submental fat, and it was approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as the 40th domestically developed new drug. “NUVIJU” is the world’s first product to use colic acid (CA) as its main ingredient, and it was designed to minimize patient discomfort by reducing adverse reactions such as swelling and bruising. By adjusting the pH to a level similar to that of the human body (pH 7.4 formulation), the product minimizes pain during treatment and excludes chemical excipients—such as benzyl alcohol and benzethonium chloride—that may cause skin irritation.



“NewViju” has demonstrated its efficacy and safety through a large-scale Phase 3 clinical trial. In a study involving 240 Korean patients with moderate to severe submental fat, who received up to six repeated treatments at approximately four-week intervals, the percentage of patients whose submental fat improved by at least one stage compared to pre-treatment levels was 88.57% in the “NewViju” treatment group, 32.43% in the placebo group. The proportion of patients showing an improvement of two or more stages was 46.67% in the ‘NewViju’ group and 5.41% in the placebo group.

Through additional preclinical trials, Meditox confirmed that subcutaneous injection of ‘NewViju’ resulted in significantly lower levels of blood stress hormones—such as corticosterone and catecholamines—and lower expression of pain-related receptors in skin tissue compared to the control group. Meditox plans to expand its academic and marketing efforts targeting healthcare professionals based on various research data that demonstrate the unique advantages of ‘NewViju’.
