On the 19th, RAY announced that an article on its digital diagnostic workflow using the 5D platform was recently published in “Quintessenz Zahntechnik,” one of the world’s most prestigious academic journals specializing in dental technology and prosthodontics. *Quintessenz Zahntechnik* is a German journal specializing in dental technology, prosthodontics, and digital dentistry, and is regarded as one of the leading professional publications in the European dental community covering the latest clinical technologies and digital workflows.
The article addressed the topic “Advances, Possibilities, and Integration in Modern Diagnostics: Working with the Ray 5D Digital Imaging Platform.” Co-authors included Karsten Kamm, an expert in digital prosthetics and CAD/CAM; Cyrus Alamouti, an expert in digital orthodontics, implants, and AI-based workflows; and Stephan Weihe, an expert in digital occlusion and temporomandibular joint function analysis—all key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the European dental community.
According to the article, 5D integrates CBCT (dental 3D CT), AI-based automatic segmentation data, intraoral data, and facial data into a single platform to create a “Virtual Patient.” The company explained that this automates the data alignment process—which previously required manual work across multiple software programs—and reduces the time needed for diagnosis and treatment planning from up to 60 minutes to approximately 5–12 minutes.
In particular, the combination of the RAYFace facial scanner and the 5D platform was identified as a key competitive advantage for 5D. RAYFace uses a “one-shot” imaging method to capture facial data in just 0.5 seconds, minimizing errors caused by patient movement; by automatically aligning this data with the 5D platform, it enables the creation of more realistic virtual patient models. This integrated digital workflow can be applied to various clinical fields, including implants, prosthetics, orthodontics, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) treatment.
The authors stated, “The future of digital dentistry will evolve toward the integrated utilization of aesthetic, functional, and anatomical information within a single digital environment,” adding, “5D is a platform capable of realizing this digital diagnostic environment.”
A RAY representative said, “This article is particularly significant because it was written based on the experiences of European clinicians who used 5D and RAYFace in real clinical settings,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the competitiveness of our AI-based digital dentistry platform and expand our presence in the global market.”
