[Edaily Reporter Han Kwangbeom ] OpenAI will provide "ChatGPT Enterprise" and "Codex" to SamsungElectronics(005930). This is one of the largest OpenAI Enterprise contracts ever signed globally.
OpenAI announced on the 22nd that SamsungElectronics is rolling out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to its employees worldwide to drive work innovation and facilitate a company-wide AI transformation.
Under this agreement, ChatGPT and Codex will be provided to all SamsungElectronics employees in South Korea and to all employees of the Device Experience (DX) division worldwide. SamsungElectronics plans to utilize these tools across all business functions—including software development, marketing, product development, manufacturing, and corporate support—to enhance employee productivity and problem-solving capabilities.
ChatGPT Enterprise offers enterprise-grade features such as data protection, user and access rights management, and security controls. SamsungElectronics employees will be able to safely perform various knowledge-based tasks—including information search and analysis, document creation, idea development, and data interpretation—within the company’s security policies and governance framework.
Originally created as a software development tool, Codex has evolved into a platform that can now be used across a wide range of general business areas. It contributes not only to developer tasks such as writing, reviewing, and debugging code but also helps non-development roles turn ideas into practical software, internal tools, websites, and automated processes. Currently, more than 5 million people use Codex every week, and the number of weekly active users in South Korea has increased by nearly 800% since February 1.
The collaboration between OpenAI and SamsungElectronics appears to be expanding from AI infrastructure to company-wide business innovation. Previously, the two companies began collaborating in the global AI infrastructure sector, including the supply of advanced memory semiconductors necessary for building next-generation AI infrastructure.
Adoption of OpenAI is also growing across the Korean industrial and educational sectors. Seoul National University recently began offering “ChatGPT Edu” free of charge to 47,000 students, faculty, and staff as part of its effort to transition to an AI-native campus. Kakao has introduced a ChatGPT question-and-answer feature in KakaoTalk group chats. In addition, various companies—including LGELECTRONICS, LG Uplus, LG CNS, GS Engineering & Construction Corp, Samsung SDS, TVING, KRAFTON, Toss, Musinsa, KoreaZinc, NEXENTIRE, and HANATOUR SERVICE—are utilizing ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API, and Codex.
Kim Kyung-hoon, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, stated, “This adoption is a significant milestone in OpenAI’s history, as SamsungElectronics—a global technology and manufacturing leader—is utilizing AI not merely as a tool limited to specific organizations or tasks, but as a core platform to enhance the work methods and innovation capabilities of its employees worldwide.” "OpenAI will work closely with SamsungElectronics to enable its employees to use ChatGPT to bring ideas to life more quickly, solve complex problems, and create new products and services," he added.
