LG Display's OLED Becomes First in the World to Receive 'Perfect Color and Brightness' Certification

Intertek Becomes First in the World to Obtain 'Color and Brightness Accuracy' Certification Achieved 100% accuracy in both color and brightness Delivers image quality without color distortion or brightness loss compared to LCDs "Conveys the Creator's Intent Exactly" Proves Competitiveness in Video Quality

[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LG Display’s OLED has been recognized by a global certification body as a display that accurately reproduces the colors and brightness intended by the creator. This marks the first time in the world that an entire lineup of OLED products for TVs and monitors has earned “color and brightness accuracy” certification.

LG Display announced on the 22nd that all of its large-sized OLED panels for TVs and monitors have received “Color and Brightness Accuracy (Perfect Color/Brightness Accuracy up to 500 lux)” certification from Intertek, a global testing and certification body. This certification is notable for its quantitative evaluation of how accurately a display reproduces the colors and brightness intended by the content creator under typical viewing conditions.

While image quality competitiveness was previously evaluated based on individual specifications such as color gamut or maximum luminance, this certification focuses on how accurately colors and brightness are reproduced in actual content viewing environments. Intertek measured the degree of color and brightness variation at specific locations on the screen using various test patterns on both OLED and LCD products.

The results showed that LG Display’s OLED achieved 100% color accuracy, 100% brightness accuracy, and “Color Crosstalk Free” status simultaneously. The company explained that this means the display can faithfully reproduce the colors and brightness intended by the content creator, regardless of the type of content or changes in the viewing environment.

In contrast, LCD products measured using the same method were found to fall short of 100% in both color and brightness accuracy. LG Display noted that some premium LCD TVs using RGB LED backlights were found to distort the colors of objects depending on the background color.

LG Display emphasized that OLED’s self-emissive structure is what creates this difference. The company explained that OLED employs pixel dimming technology, in which millions of pixels each emit light individually, thereby fundamentally eliminating light bleed and color interference. It added that this allows for the accurate reproduction of the colors and brightness intended by the creator under various conditions, including bright or dark areas on the screen, as well as small and large objects.

With this certification, LG Display plans to objectively demonstrate the competitive edge of OLED picture quality and strengthen its leadership in the global premium display market. Lee Hyun-woo, Head of LG Display’s Large-Size Business Division, stated, “This is an opportunity to objectively prove that OLED perfectly and accurately reproduces color and brightness—the picture quality values consumers seek—exactly as intended by the content creator,” adding, “We will continue to clearly convey the premium picture quality unique to OLED to global customers.”
