U.S. and Iran Begin Talks… Reports Suggest Iran May Withdraw Amid Trump’s Threats Foreign Investors Sell; Individual and Institutional Investors Buy Top-Market-Cap Stocks Lead Declines… Samsung Life Insurance Down 6% KOSDAQ Rises Slightly… PSK INC. Up 11%

[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] The KOSPI opened lower amid difficulties in the U.S.-Iran peace talks.
According to MP Doctor on the 22nd, as of 9:11 a.m., the KOSPI is trading at 8,929.25, down 1.36% (123.17 points) from the previous trading day.
Although the U.S. and Iran began talks in Switzerland on the 21st (local time) to sign a peace agreement, the negotiations do not appear to be proceeding smoothly. A situation arose in which the Iranian delegation walked out of the negotiations in protest after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran again if it failed to stop the pro-Iranian militant group Hezbollah. However, it is reported that informal discussions to bring both sides back to the negotiating table are ongoing.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, advised, “The KOSPI is expected to continue its volatile trend this week,” adding, “However, as the market still appears to be focused on the ceasefire, it is appropriate to view any news related to war fears that emerges during the week as mere noise.”
While foreign investors are selling 7655억 won worth of stocks on the KOSPI market, retail and institutional investors are showing net buying of 7098억 won and 363억 won, respectively. Program trading shows a net sell of 6503억 won, combining arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades.
