Top Three Electronics Companies Project Record Earnings… Accelerating Efforts to Secure AI as a Growth Engine
[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] The “One LG” strategy being pursued by LG Corp. Chairman Koo Kwang-mo is set to face its first major test following a collaboration with NVIDIA. With the group’s three electronics affiliates projected to post record-breaking earnings this year, LG appears to be accelerating its efforts to secure next-generation growth engines centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

(Photo = Yonhap News) According to industry sources on the 22nd, approximately 30 executives and staff members from major LG Corp. affiliates will visit NVIDIA’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to discuss collaboration opportunities in the fields of physical AI and robotics. This follow-up meeting is taking place about two weeks after the meeting between Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, which was held on the 8th at the LG Corp. Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul.
Attendees at this visit include Hyun Shin-kyun, President of LG CNS; Jeong Su-heon, CEO of LG Science Park; Kim Byung-hoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LGELECTRONICS; Lee Hyun-wook, Head of the HS Research Center at LGELECTRONICS; and Min Jong, CTO of LG Innotek. A large-scale working group, including staff from LGELECTRONICS, LG Innotek, LG CNS, and the LG AI Research Institute, is scheduled to discuss technical sessions and business collaboration plans with NVIDIA representatives.
What has caught the industry’s attention is that this meeting is not merely about technical cooperation. Given that affiliates including LGELECTRONICS, LG Innotek, LG CNS, and LG AI Research are all participating, observers note that this marks the first time Chairman Koo’s long-emphasized “One LG” strategy is being realized in the form of a large-scale AI project. LGELECTRONICS specializes in robotics and HVAC; LG Innotek in sensing and components; LG CNS in AI platforms; and LG AI Research in the ultra-large-scale AI model EXAONE.
The core areas of collaboration between the two companies are physical AI and AI infrastructure. By combining NVIDIA’s AI platform with LG Corp.’s capabilities in manufacturing, home appliances, and mobility, the two companies are expected to pursue the commercialization of reference robots, smart factories, and AI data center cooling solutions. LG Corp. is also reportedly considering the development of next-generation humanoid robot technology based on NVIDIA’s robot development platform, “Isaac Groot.”

(Photo: Yonhap News) This move aligns with the recent trend of improved performance among LG Corp.’s electronics affiliates. According to financial information provider FnGuide Inc., the combined revenue of LGELECTRONICS, LG Display, and LG Innotek this year is projected to exceed 143조5977억, with operating profit surpassing 6조원. If these projections hold true, both revenue and operating profit will reach all-time highs.
This improvement in performance is already becoming evident. LGELECTRONICS recorded revenue of 23.7272 trillion won in the first quarter of this year, achieving its highest-ever first-quarter results, while LG Innotek posted its highest-ever quarterly revenue of 5.5348 trillion won. LG Display also succeeded in returning to profitability in the first quarter for the first time since 2021, driven by the benefits of its transition to an OLED-centric business structure.
Market observers attribute these changes to the business restructuring strategy Chairman Koo has pursued since taking office. By boldly divesting from low-profitability businesses—such as withdrawing from the smartphone market and scaling back the LCD business—and instead concentrating investments in future growth areas like automotive electronics, OLED, HVAC, and semiconductor substrates, the company is seeing these efforts translate into tangible results. Recently, it has been expanding its business scope by cultivating AI data center cooling solutions and physical AI as new growth engines.
A business sector official stated, “This collaboration with NVIDIA is a crucial test of whether the ‘One LG Corp.’ strategy can translate into actual business results.”
