The Associated Press reported on the 28th (KST) that Gakpo’s partner, Noah van der Beij, had lost their second child, who was still in the womb.
Van der Beek paid tribute to the child on her social media, writing, “Thank you for your love and support. Elizej Raphael Gakpo. We will love you forever; you will always be our son.”

The couple already has a first son, and their second child was due in October.
Gakpo also posted on his social media, saying, “This is an incredibly difficult time for our family,” and added, “We ask that you respect our privacy and give us some time. Thank you for your understanding.”
Gakpo is currently competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He scored two goals in the group stage match against Sweden, leading the Netherlands to finish first in their group.
The Netherlands is scheduled to face Morocco in the Round of 32 in Mexico on the 30th. Attention is focused on whether Gakpo will continue to play with the team through the tournament despite his deep grief.
