KTCorporation Launches First Commercial 'Hub-Based 5G Enterprise Network'… Accelerates Push into Public Telecommunications Market

First Regional-Level Hub Integration Solution Unveiled at Gyeonggi Provincial Government Future Network Lab Implements Its Own Technology… Separating and Controlling Traffic by Segment "We Will Actively Support the Digital Transformation of the Government and Public Institutions"

[Edaily Reporter Yun Junghoon ]KTCorporation(030200)is accelerating its push into the public telecommunications market by upgrading its 5G business network to a “hub-based” service. The company plans to lead digital transformation (DX) in the public sector with a new business model that maximizes infrastructure efficiency, moving away from the previous approach of duplicate network deployments for each individual agency.

KTCorporation announced on the 25th that it is upgrading its 5G business network to a hub-based service and will support the establishment of a secure and flexible wireless work environment for public sector clients. This enhanced solution was first implemented at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.

The 5G work network is a telecommunications solution for enterprises and public institutions that replaces existing wired-based work infrastructure with a 5G wireless network featuring enhanced security. Its key advantage is that it enables a smart work environment, allowing employees to work safely and flexibly without constraints of time or location. In particular, it can be used without installing any software and applies the internal network security policies of the enterprise or institution, ensuring both convenience and security.

The core feature of the “5G Business Network Hub-Type” solution unveiled by KTCorporation is its enhanced network infrastructure efficiency. It breaks away from the traditional approach—where government agencies and local governments, which require network security approval, built separate networks for each institution—and is designed to be integrated into regional hubs, allowing subordinate local governments and agencies to share the infrastructure.

The “5G Business Network Hub Model” is a research achievement developed directly by KTCorporation’s Future Network Lab and is designed to segregate and control traffic segment by segment, from end devices to the central network. This allows each institution to operate its network independently while utilizing a shared infrastructure, and eliminates the need for large-scale equipment deployment when adding new business networks.

KTCorporation has implemented the “hub-based 5G business network” for the first time in the public sector—specifically for public institutions and local governments—at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government. KTCorporation installed the GMG (Government Mobile Gateway), the core equipment for the 5G business network, at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government’s data center and launched an interconnected business network serving seven local governments under Gyeonggi Province, including Suwon, Paju, and Uijeongbu.

Going forward, KTCorporation plans to further develop back-office functions that allow for the separation of authority between higher-level agencies and subordinate agencies, thereby simultaneously enhancing clients’ operational independence and infrastructure efficiency.

Starting with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Intelligent Pioneer Project in 2020, KTCorporation was the sole participant in the 2022 5G Government Network Pioneer Project, leading the commercialization of 5G business networks. Since then, it has been providing services to various clients, including public institutions, starting in 2024.

Through this project, KTCorporation has demonstrated its service capabilities for metropolitan local governments as the “5G Government Network Service” provider under the 5th National Information and Communications Service (GNS) initiative and has gained experience in building and operating 5G business networks optimized for local government environments. KTCorporation plans to continue refining its service model and expanding its services across the entire public sector.

Jeon Myeong-jun, Executive Vice President and Head of KTCorporation’s Enterprise Services Division, stated, “This hub-based 5G business network model is a new business model that can be utilized by all customers—including metropolitan local governments, government agencies, and public institutions—who share internal infrastructure.” He added, “KTCorporation aims to become a provider that actively supports the digital transformation of public sector customers through various platform services.”
