Proenza Soft Capsules are also the first generic version of Xtandi Soft Capsules (active ingredient: enzalutamide), a prostate cancer treatment. Proenza Soft Capsules began supplying the domestic market on the 28th, coinciding with the expiration of the enzalutamide substance patent, and are expected to contribute to expanding treatment options for patients.
Enzalutamide is a prostate cancer treatment that inhibits androgen receptor (AR) signaling and is used to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), among other conditions.
The number of prostate cancer patients in Korea is steadily increasing alongside an aging population. Enzalutamide has established itself as a major standard-of-care treatment for prostate cancer. Xtandi, the original brand-name drug, recorded prescription sales of approximately 38 billion won last year. The launch of this generic version is expected to improve patient access to treatment and reduce the financial burden on the national health insurance system.
Ajin Pharmaceutical will be responsible for the domestic distribution and sales of Proenza Soft Capsules. Leveraging its sales expertise accumulated in the distribution and marketing of specialty pharmaceuticals to general hospitals, Ajin Pharmaceutical plans to supply the product and expand its market presence across major general hospitals and clinics nationwide. This product is regarded as a model of collaboration that combines GL Pharm Tech Corp.’s R&D expertise with Ajin Pharmaceutical’s sales competitiveness. The two companies plan to work closely together to ensure the successful market launch of Proenza Soft Capsules.
An official from Ajin Pharmaceutical stated, “The prostate cancer treatment market is a sector that continues to grow alongside the increasing number of patients,” adding, “We will strive to provide healthcare professionals and patients with a new treatment option through the stable supply of Proenza Soft Capsules and proactive sales and marketing activities.”
An official from GL Pharm Tech Corp. remarked, “Proenza Soft Capsules represent a prime example of collaboration that combines GL Pharm Tech Corp.’s development capabilities with Ajin Pharmaceutical’s sales expertise,” adding, “We expect this launch to not only improve patients’ access to treatment but also further strengthen the growth foundations of both companies and serve as an opportunity to secure a competitive edge in the prostate cancer treatment market.”
The representative continued, “Building on this launch, we will continue to identify competitive anticancer drugs and specialty pharmaceuticals,” and added, “We will strengthen our commercialization efforts to ensure that our R&D achievements translate into actual sales.”
