[Edaily Reporter KIM SAE-MI ] GeneWell is set to expand into the Indonesian market with its pain management medical device, “Welpass.”

DONGSUNG CHEMICAL Co., Ltd.(102260)Genewell, a subsidiary of Dongsung Chemical, announced on the 30th that it recently held a Welpass product presentation and surgical observation program for executives from the Indonesian pharmaceutical company Pyridam Farma Tbk and local medical professionals.

Following an invitation program for gastroenterological surgeons held last January, this event was organized for thoracic surgeons. GeneWell formed a strategic partnership with Pyridam Farma earlier this year and officially launched Welpass in Indonesia.

The program consisted of a product presentation by Professor Jo Jong-ho of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Samsung Seoul Hospital, who participated in the WellPass clinical trial, and a surgical observation session led by Professor Seong Yong-won of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Seoul Boramae Medical Center. Participants shared real-world use cases and methods of clinical application.

Professor Jo stated, “WellPass is a new solution that aids in postoperative pain management and recovery for patients,” adding, “It has the potential to serve as a treatment option for medical professionals and patients in Indonesia as well.”

WellPass is a medical device that utilizes sustained-release drug delivery technology. When a small amount of local anesthetic is mixed with a gel and applied to the surgical incision site, the drug is gradually released over approximately 72 hours to help alleviate pain.

Since its launch in Indonesia, GeneWell has been conducting product training and academic exchanges with local medical professionals. Through these efforts, the company plans to raise product awareness in the local market and drive sales growth.

In the second half of this year, the company plans to continue offering product lectures and surgical observation programs not only for local medical professionals in gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery but also for those in obstetrics and gynecology. Genewell is also considering expanding into neighboring countries such as Singapore and the Philippines, using the Indonesian market as a base.

Han Sang-deok, CEO of GeneWell, stated, “This event served as an opportunity to strengthen our partnership with Piridam Pharma and introduce the clinical value of WellPass to key local medical professionals,” adding, “We will pursue market expansion in the region by leveraging Piridam Pharma’s distribution network and its manufacturing infrastructure for the local anesthetic ropivacaine.”

Meanwhile, HANPASS CO.,Ltd. passed the New Medical Technology Evaluation in 2025. It is currently supplied to 160 major hospitals in South Korea, and if its inclusion in the National Health Insurance system is finalized in the second half of this year, supply is expected to expand through insurance coverage.
