LGELECTRONICS Establishes 'Robotics Business Center' Reporting Directly to the CEO… Accelerating Commercialization of 'Physical AI'

New Stand-Alone Organization Directly Under the CEO Established… Strengthening Execution Capabilities in the Robotics Business Dedicated Organization for Robot Training Data Factory Also Established Expanding Collaboration with 'LG Corp.' and Global Big Tech Partnerships Targeting the Robotics Market Through Three Pillars: Household, Industrial, and Commercial

[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LGELECTRONICS has reorganized its robotics business unit to foster physical AI as a future growth engine. The company has established a dedicated organization reporting directly to the CEO that spans business development, sales, supply chain, and manufacturing. Its strategy is to accelerate the commercialization of robotics by consolidating its data and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

LGELECTRONICS announced on the 30th that it will implement an organizational restructuring effective the 1st of next month, establishing the “Robotics Business Center,” a unit reporting directly to the CEO. Song Si-yong, who previously served as head of the Manufacturing Capability Enhancement Division, head of the Production System Solutions Division, and director of the Smart Factory Solutions Center at the LG Institute of Industrial Technology, will lead the new organization.

This is a targeted reorganization carried out approximately four months ahead of the company’s regular organizational restructuring. The company explained that it proactively revamped its business execution framework in response to the growing strategic importance of the robotics sector, which it is cultivating as a future business based on Physical AI.

The newly established Robotics Business Center will operate as a self-contained business unit equipped with business development, sales, and operations functions. Moving beyond a research and development-focused structure, the plan is to accelerate commercialization by having a single organization handle the entire process—from identifying business opportunities to managing the supply chain, manufacturing, and business operations.

A dedicated team for a robot training data factory will also be newly established under the center. LGELECTRONICS plans to utilize the high-quality data secured from the data factory to advance its Robot Foundation Model (RFM) and translate this into actual business competitiveness. Currently, a large-scale robot training data factory is under construction at the Yangjae R&D Campus in Seoul, with the goal of commencing operations within the year.

The company expects this organizational restructuring to further strengthen governance within the robotics business. Based on an efficient decision-making system, it aims to accelerate the formulation and execution of business strategies, the internalization of core technologies, and the securing of cost competitiveness. At the same time, it anticipates that “One LG” collaboration with affiliates such as LG CNS and LG AI Research, as well as the expansion of partnerships with global big tech companies, will become significantly smoother.

LGELECTRONICS plans to build a three-pillar portfolio by adding home robots to its industrial and commercial robots, which are centered around its subsidiaries Robostar Co.,Ltd. and Bear Robotics. Furthermore, the company presented a blueprint to leap forward from a manufacturer of finished robot products to a comprehensive robotics solutions provider by securing core components—such as actuators—and establishing a data factory.
