[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] Oh Seok-geun, former Executive Director of KTCorporation(030200), has been nominated as the first Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan’s 9th popularly elected administration.
Oh Seok-geun, Nominee for Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan According to the camp of Busan Mayor-elect Jeon Jae-soo on the 30th, Mayor-elect Jeon has selected former KTCorporation Executive Director Oh as the next Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs. It is reported that Busan City ultimately chose Oh after searching for a candidate who possessed both political acumen and expertise in the industrial and economic sectors.
Born in 1961, Oh is the son-in-law of Lee Young-hee, author of *A Bird Flies with Both Wings*, and entered politics in 1989 as a legislative aide to a member of the National Assembly. He began his public service career as an administrative officer at the Blue House during the Kim Young-sam administration and later served as Executive Vice President in charge of External Relations at Korea Telecom Freetel and KTCorporation. He subsequently served as Vice President of the Communications Committee at Hanwha Group before being appointed in 2021 as Head of the Communications Division (Vice President) at POSCO, where he oversaw external relations and communications.
He also has ties to academia. In 2016, he became the first external private-sector expert to be appointed Vice President for External Affairs and Professor at the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation at Pusan National University, a position he held for two years.
