[Edaily Reporter KIM SAE-MI ] SamjinPharmaceutical(005500)announced that it launched and began supplying “Samjin Lorazepam Injection,” a national essential medicine and a drug designated for continued availability, effective July 1.

Samjin Lorazepam Injection is a sedative administered for preoperative sedation, pediatric convulsions, and status epilepticus (prolonged seizures). It is a medication with the same active ingredient and formulation as “Ativan Injection (Lorazepam),” which has been supplied to medical facilities.

Lorazepam injections are considered essential medications in emergency and pediatric care settings. While national essential medicines and medicines designated for retention are crucial for patient treatment, their supply can become unstable due to profitability issues, making a stable production and supply system vital.

ILDONG PHARM(249420), which had been supplying this injection, decided to discontinue supply; consequently, SamjinPharmaceutical, following consultations with health authorities, took over the product line to continue its production and supply. Subsequently, the company obtained approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for a change in manufacturer and completed the process from acquiring the license to commencing in-house production.

Through the supply of Samjin Lorazepam Injection, SamjinPharmaceutical plans to reduce supply gaps for essential medicines and contribute to maintaining access to treatment in medical settings.

SamjinPharmaceutical has been committed to ensuring a stable supply of essential medicines and medicines at risk of market withdrawal. The company has served as the sole or one of the few suppliers for numerous products, including “Samjin Diazepam,” an injectable medication administered to patients in status epilepticus; “Samjin Nimodipine,” a treatment for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage; and essential antibiotics such as “Tiramox,” “J-Tin,” “Hulgram,” and “Hanomycin.”
