Premiering on the 7th of next month, SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama “Chaebol X Detective 2” is a large-scale, “FLEX”-style collaborative investigation series featuring Jin Yi-su, a third-generation chaebol detective for whom money and connections are his “cheat codes,” and veteran detective Joo Hye-ra as they take down increasingly cunning criminals.
Having built a solid fanbase during its first season—when it recorded a peak viewership rating of 11% thanks to its unique “FLEX-style refreshing” premise—viewers’ anticipation and interest in “Chaebol X Detective 2” are growing by the day ahead of its premiere.
The first teaser video, released on the 2nd, opens with chaebol detective “Jin Yi-su” (played by Ahn Bo-hyun) exuding confidence as he says, “Shall we get started?” Jin Yi-su’s exploits—flying overseas on a luxurious private jet alongside “Park Jun-young” (played by Kang Sang-jun) and “Choi Kyung-jin” (played by Kim Shin-bi) from the Major Crimes Unit 1, with whom he has formed a bond stronger than blood, to take down criminals—signal that the upgraded “Flex” investigations have begun anew.
He then appears at a party, dressed in a tuxedo, casually shouting “Cheers,” before adding, “I’m going to use that helicopter. I need to catch those serial killers,” before summoning a helicopter, and engaging in a high-speed car chase in the heart of the city in a luxury imported car—all of which builds anticipation for the thrilling catharsis of taking down criminals by fully leveraging the “cheat code” of wealth.
Above all, the foreshadowing of new changes for Kang Ha-seo piques our interest. A new team leader is taking charge of the Major Crimes Unit 1. Jin Yi-su was brimming with anticipation, having even prepared a red carpet and a bouquet of flowers to welcome the new team leader. However, the new team leader—who made a cool entrance on a motorcycle while wearing a police uniform—turned out to be “Joo Hye-ra” (played by Jung Eun-chae), the devilish drill sergeant who had made Jin Yi-su tremble with fear back in police academy.
Joo Hye-ra dominates the screen with her “girl crush” appeal, effortlessly throwing Jin Yi-soo to the ground with judo techniques and wielding her baton without hesitation. When a despairing Jin Yi-soo exclaims, “This is a nightmare,” Joo Hye-ra coldly retorts, “It’s reality,” sparking curiosity about the new “sparkling chemistry” the two will showcase.
The scale of the crimes threatening them is no small matter either. Amid bomb attacks and fire threats occurring indiscriminately in locations ranging from department stores to moving vehicles and party venues, a mysterious warning arrives: “Inspector Jin, let’s start the game.” Joo Hye-ra’s sharp line—“Jin Yi-soo, it means they’re willing to let you die. There’s someone out there targeting you with that level of determination”—hints at the new crisis facing Jin Yi-soo and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
Amidst this, actor Yoo Seung-ho, who plays the new chaebol character “Yoo Seong-won,” finally makes his debut, drawing significant attention. He instantly captivates fans who have been eagerly awaiting his new transformation, sparking intense curiosity about the role he will play moving forward.
It is reported that “Chaebol X Detective 2” has established a solid world-building framework thanks to the reunion of Director Kim Jae-hong and Writer Kim Ba-da, who handled the direction and screenplay for Season 1. Expectations are high for “Chaebol X Detective 2,” which will continue the SBS Friday-Saturday drama “Cider Universe.” It premieres next month on the 7th at 9:50 p.m.
