MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama “Married Woman Killer,” which premieres on the 31st, depicts the struggles of a working mom with the world’s deadliest job as she fights to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
In the drama, Gong Hyo-jin delivers a passionate performance as Yoo Bo-na, a “one-shot, one-kill” assassin who eliminates vicious criminals with a sniper rifle. She is the top-performing manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics and has earned the nickname “Kingfisher” because she hunts her prey from high vantage points like a kingfisher before striking in an instant.
In particular, the premise that “Kingfisher”—a legend in the assassin world—suddenly vanished due to childbirth and parenting playfully subverts the conventions of the traditional noir genre. True to this twist, Yoo Bo-na is a cool-headed perfectionist at work but an ordinary wife and mother at home. Gong Hyo-jin is set to bring Yoo Bo-na’s multifaceted charm to life by seamlessly switching between these two contrasting personas.
Yoo Bo-na evokes a sense of real-life relatability through episodes rooted in everyday life—juggling work and childcare, and navigating the dynamics between her company and her in-laws. She goes all out to maintain peace in her household, balancing her husband Kwon Tae-sung (played by Jung Jun-won), her adorable daughter Kwon Yul (played by Hwang Bom-i), and even her formidable mother-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Having gained a precious family for the first time in her life, Yoo Bo-na is said to present a lively and unexpected charm as she faces a new turning point in her life, sparking curiosity.
Gong Hyo-jin, who won widespread acclaim for the popular 2011 MBC drama *The Greatest Love*, is making her return to an MBC drama after 15 years. Through *Married Woman Killer*, she is set to delicately portray the complex emotions of Yoo Bo-na as she returns to work after maternity leave. Expectations are high to see if she can add another iconic MBC drama to her repertoire following *The Greatest Love*.
“Married Woman Killer” premieres on the 31st at 9:50 p.m.
