HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD Introduces 'Low-Carbon Pork' to Institutional Meal Programs for the First Time

Uses hind leg meat produced at low-carbon livestock farms "Establishing Itself as a 'Company That Provides Healthy Food'"

[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD affiliate and comprehensive food company HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD(453340)announced on the 5th that it will begin introducing low-carbon-certified pork hind leg cuts into institutional meal programs starting this month.

HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD explained that this marks the first time in the domestic institutional food service industry that low-carbon pork is being regularly supplied to on-site cafeterias. Low-carbon pork refers to pork produced at “low-carbon livestock farms” certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Institute. Until now, due to the limited number of producing farms and prices higher than those of regular pork, it has been supplied on a small scale to select distribution channels.

The supply volume is 30 metric tons (t) per year, which accounts for 10% of the total pork hind leg meat used by HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD in institutional meal services over the course of a year.

HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD emphasized that growing interest in and demand for low-carbon meals led to this supply of low-carbon pork. Since 2021, HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD has operated “Green Day,” a program that offers low-carbon meals twice a month to institutional dining facilities seeking to implement low-carbon menus. Currently, approximately 600 of the roughly 650 institutional dining facilities nationwide participate in Green Day.

Starting this month, HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD plans to offer low-carbon pork menu items—such as pork and garlic chive bibimbap, braised pork and cabbage rice bowl, and pork ragù pasta—to facilities participating in “Green Day.”

A HYUNDAI GREEN FOOD official stated, “We plan to gradually expand our supply in line with the increasing production of low-carbon pork, while also accelerating the development of related menu items,” adding, “We aim to establish ourselves as a ‘company that provides healthy food’ that positively impacts people’s diets.”
