According to business circles on the 7th, Chairman Lee will depart for Seattle, U.S., this afternoon via the Seoul Gimpo Business Aviation Center (SGBAC) in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. He is scheduled to attend the “Sun Valley Conference,” which will be held at the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho from the 7th (local time) through the 11th.

The Sun Valley Conference is a private event that has been hosted by the U.S. investment bank Allen & Company since 1983. It brings together CEOs of global IT and media companies—including Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon, and OpenAI—to discuss industry issues, strategic partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). It is also known as the “summer camp for billionaires.”

Chairman Lee has consistently attended the Sun Valley Conference since 2002, building a global business network. Although he was unable to attend for a time following the state affairs corruption scandal, he returned last year and will be attending the event for the second consecutive year.

The reorganization of the AI semiconductor supply chain is expected to be a key topic at this year’s event. As competition intensifies to secure supply chains—encompassing memory, foundry services, and advanced packaging—alongside expanding investments in AI data centers, collaboration between global Big Tech firms and semiconductor companies is becoming increasingly important.

Among global semiconductor companies, SamsungElectronics is one of the few that operates both high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and foundry businesses. Industry observers are paying close attention to the possibility that Chairman Lee will meet with executives from major Big Tech firms at this event to discuss the supply of next-generation HBM, foundry orders, and collaboration on advanced packaging.

In particular, as big tech companies such as Google, Meta, Amazon, and OpenAI are expanding their development of in-house AI semiconductors, attention is focused on whether these discussions will lead to long-term supply agreements (LTAs) and new orders.
