[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] The mixed-gender group Koyote (Kim Jong-min, Baekga, Shin Ji) has canceled their scheduled performance at a KT Wiz professional baseball home game. This decision was made following controversy over member Shin Ji’s remarks declining an invitation to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Late on the night of the 14th, their agency, JY Star, released a statement explaining, “We initially received a proposal from the KT Wiz organization for Koyote to perform a special celebratory concert following the game on August 2, and we had finalized the event.” They added, “We determined that participation was possible because this event is intended to entertain all spectators who visit the ballpark as ‘the singers Koyote,’ regardless of which team they support.”
The agency stated, “During subsequent coordination for the event, an additional proposal was made for Shin Ji to throw the ceremonial first pitch,” adding, “Since Shin Ji is widely known to be an avid fan of the Hanwha Eagles, we determined that having her take the mound at a KT Wiz home game to throw the first pitch would be disrespectful to both the home team’s fans and the visiting team’s fans, and could cause emotional discomfort; therefore, we politely declined the proposal for the ceremonial first pitch alone.”
They continued, “As the related YouTube content was uploaded, the context was not fully conveyed, which unintentionally caused misunderstandings and discomfort among KT Wiz fans,” adding, “We have humbly accepted the concerns and feedback from KT Wiz fans and have reached an amicable agreement with the KT Wiz organization to cancel the celebratory performance as well.”
Finally, the agency stated, “Going forward, our company and the artist will exercise greater care in all communications with the public and fans to ensure there are no misunderstandings.”
Previously, Shin Ji revealed in a YouTube video that while she had accepted Koyote’s invitation to perform at a KT Wiz home game, she had declined the ceremonial first pitch because she is a Hanwha Eagles fan. The video also included a caption reading, “I’ll wait for the Hanwha ceremonial first pitch.”
Online reactions were divided: some criticized her for emphasizing her support for the opposing team while performing at an event hosted by the home team, deeming it inappropriate, while others argued that Shin Ji—known to be a Hanwha Eagles fan—declined the KT Wiz’s ceremonial first pitch offer as a considerate decision that respected fans of both teams.
