[Edaily Reporter Hyera Lee ] In the afternoon session, the KOSPI extended its gains to the 4% range, driven by simultaneous buying from foreign and institutional investors. At one point during the session, the KOSPI’s buy-side circuit breaker was triggered. The KOSDAQ index is also attempting to stabilize its gains after turning bullish.
According to MP Doctor on the 21st, as of 12:42 p.m., the KOSPI was trading at 6,793.73, up 273 points (4.25%) from the previous trading day.
The index opened at 6,553.88, up 0.58%, early in the session. However, shortly after the regular session began, it turned negative and dipped to a low in the 6,440 range. Nevertheless, 35 minutes after the opening, it successfully turned positive again and is now extending its gains.
At 12:41 p.m. today, the buy-side car was triggered once again. This marks the 19th time the buy-side car has been triggered this year. The buy-side car is triggered when the price of the KOSPI 200 futures contract with the highest trading volume on the previous trading day rises by 5% or more and remains at that level for one minute.
By investor type, both foreign investors and institutions have shifted to net buying. Foreign investors have been buying for two consecutive days, with net purchases totaling around 379.6 billion won. Institutions have also turned to net buying for two consecutive days, accumulating over 1.4 trillion won. Retail investors are selling around 1.7933 trillion won worth of shares. Program trading shows a net buying position of 950.1 billion won, combining both arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades.
Most of the top market-cap stocks rebounded from sharp early losses and are now trading in the green.
Among the top 50 stocks by market capitalization, only six are trading lower.

SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS announced yesterday that it has decided to acquire Poly Peptide, a Swiss contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in peptides, for 2.7 trillion won. The stock is up by around 4% on expectations that the company will make a full-scale entry into the global CDMO market for obesity treatments.
At the same time, SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260)is trading at 345,000 won, up 8.66%. SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION holds a 43.06% stake in SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS.
