Company Posts Loss Due to One-Time Expenses Related to Voluntary Retirement Program
Expectations for Improved Earnings in the Second Half… Enhancing Efficiency Through AX
[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] LG Display posted a consolidated operating loss of 107.7 billion won in the second quarter of this year. While the company recorded a loss in the second quarter due to one-time costs associated with a voluntary retirement program, analysts expect a significant improvement in performance in the second half of the year. Having successfully returned to profitability last year, LG Display plans to continue driving annual performance improvements this year as well.
LG Display reported consolidated revenue of 5.6121 trillion won and an operating loss of 107.7 billion won for the second quarter of this year. On a consolidated basis for the first half of this year, the company recorded revenue of 11.1461 trillion won and an operating profit of 39 billion won. The company explained that the first half of the year is typically a period when display demand slows down, as finished goods manufacturers adjust their component inventories ahead of new product launches in the second half. In addition, one-time costs related to a voluntary retirement program were reflected in the second-quarter results.
LG Display plans to strengthen its business competitiveness in the second half of the year by securing “leading-edge technology” and “advancing technology-driven cost innovation.” In particular, the company aims to achieve technology innovation centered on AX (Artificial Intelligence Transformation), going beyond mere cost reduction. Through this, it will maximize efficiency across the entire process, from development to manufacturing and production.
In the small- and medium-sized panel business, the company will focus its capabilities on technologies that provide a distinctive competitive advantage to strengthen competitiveness, particularly in high-end products. Furthermore, it plans to respond flexibly to market changes by making the most of its stable technology, development, and mass production systems. In the large-sized panel business, the company will solidify its leadership in the premium market and expand its performance based on a product lineup that combines differentiated technology with cost competitiveness.
Kim Sung-hyun, CFO of LG Display, stated, “Excluding one-time factors, the business maintained a profitable trend in the second quarter as well,” adding, “In the second half of the year, we will continue to improve annual performance by advancing cost innovation and strengthening business competitiveness, thereby solidifying a stable profit structure.”
